Customers say: Quick response

"5 Stars -- Needed to have a part of the footboard on my bed refinished due to overzealous polishing on my part. Called Woodwise On-Site Furniture Repair and I am so glad I did. Communications with Dave were excellent. On the appointed day, Dave arrived on time and followed the Covid-19 protocol of wearing a mask which he kept on the whole time he was in my home. Dave is clearly an artist at color matching as the refinished portion of the footboard is a seamless match to the part that did not need refinishing.. His attention to detail also extended to cleaning up the work area upon completion of the job. His price was more than fair for the quality of the work. I highly recommend."

"To say this company had a tough job would be an understatement. My carpets and dining room chairs were a mess terrible stains from a dogs (2 Great Danes 1 mastiff). My house smells so good. My carpets look brand new. The companies in the past could never remove all of the stains. It was so easy to contact and schedule. The people that came to my house were the nicest caring people. They let my daughter know there were ready to go and stayed to make sure she locked the door behind them. The cost is very affordable. They were also fast. I’m so happy with the results. They exceeded my expectations with price, quality of work, efficiency and quickness in scheduling. It’s very easy to communicate with text calling quick to respond I hope they took before and after pictures so they can show others their excellent work"

Small jobs welcome

"My experience was amazing from start to finish. I kept finding tables that I loved but not in the length I needed or the quality was subpar. I messaged Tom to see what could be done using the length I needed and what I liked. He was attentive and professional throughout. The table was to me in less than two weeks and far exceeded my expectations."

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

The average cost to reupholster a piece of furniture is around $720, with most projects falling in the $380 to $1,150 range. The final price can vary significantly based on several factors. These include the size and complexity of the furniture, the cost of the new fabric (which typically ranges from $50 to $70 per yard), and hourly labor rates (often $40 to $100 per hour). Additional factors that influence the price are the piece's current condition, its age, whether it needs other repairs, the number of pieces being reupholstered, and your geographic location.

Upholstery reduces waste sent to landfills, limits resource consumption, and supports sustainable living practices, provided fabrics meet standards.

It is often worthwhile to refinish or restore furniture, especially for high-quality, older, antique, or sentimental pieces. Older furniture tends to have better durability than modern, mass-produced items, and refinishing can cost about one-third of the price of replacement. To determine if it's cost-effective, compare quotes from local refinishing services with the price of a new, similar piece. Refinishing can refresh a piece's look and extend its lifespan. However, it may not be worth it for newer furniture made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) or plywood, or for items with major structural damage. A professional can help you assess the piece and decide on the best course of action.

As with any project, weighing the pros and cons of upholstery can help determine if that is the right choice for you. The ultimate question is whether it’s worth reupholstering instead of buying new furniture. Here are a few of the benefits and disadvantages of reupholstering a piece of furniture.

Pros:

  • Preserving a family heirloom

  • Maintaining high-quality furniture in good condition

  • Reinventing an old piece of furniture

  • Keeping a piece of furniture from going to a landfill

Cons:

  • Spending (possibly) more than to buy a new piece of furniture

  • Finding out the frame is beyond repair

  • Waiting for the reupholstery work to be done

Part of the beauty of academia decor is that most textures and materials will feel right at home, provided they’re dark. Some common textures include natural wood, dark metals like iron, velvet, and leather. Incorporating these into your dark academia decor will make them look right at home. Glass is another option in some cases, so fill in gaps in your decor with small glass jars, or really lean on the gothic roots of dark academia with stained glass.
