"TERRIBLE, TERRIIBLE, TERRIBLE!!!! My home warranty company sent Salego to my home due to furnace cycling on/off.(Furnace was still heating house, just took a little longer than normal.) technician arrived and instead of looking for a problem, immediately started changing settings which the furnace had been set to for many years. He Increased high limit shut off temperature, and increased blower to max speed. (Furnace had operated perfectly fine on previous settings for many years.) After making those adjustments, the furnace would not even ignite. (My furnace always ignited prior to technician making those adjustments.) technician never performed any diagnostics or checked functioning of a single sensor. Instead, he looked inside the heat exchanger and said “this furnace is shot, the heat exchanger is cracked.” Technician then began discussing prices of new furnace. Once again, my furnace was heating my home prior to this service call, now technician was leaving and my furnace wouldn’t even ignite. I asked him to make it work again due to me having a 1 year old child in the home and needing heat. Technician refused to make furnace operable because of the risk of carbon monoxide. I explained I have CO detectors which have never detected any CO in the house but he still refused to make my furnace operable. Conclusion: I paid $75 for technician to make my problem worse and completely disable my heat. What a deal, huh? A 2nd opinion revealed heat exchanger is not cracked and my furnace is not “shot.”"

The simplest way to know if your return air vent is working properly is to test it. Take a piece of tissue or paper (the thinner, the better) and hold it up alongside the air return. If the return air vent is working as expected, it should suck the paper toward the vent. 

You do need dampers in your HVAC system, but they do help to regulate airflow and give you better control of the temperature in each room of your home. Most HVAC systems will have dampers installed, but this isn't always the case. If you don’t have designated zones in your home, you’ll likely still have valve control dampers on your supply vents for manual control.

Next, clean your air vents once a month, as they can help you see how much dirty air filters through. If you notice them becoming dirtier, you should have your ducts cleaned. Most smoke odors will subside over time if you air out the materials holding onto them, but they often won’t completely go away on their own. If you’re dealing with stubborn smoke odors on furniture and building materials, begin by deep cleaning and deodorizing with baking soda or activated charcoal. You may need to repeat treatment. If that doesn’t work, hire a smoke damage restoration company for help.

Before you start removing mold, turn off the furnace. Clean away any visible mold from accessible areas using a mixture of water and mild detergent.
