Two years later, after finding black mold along the wall in my son’s closet, I realized my brand new roof was leaking in an entirely different location from the original leak. Long story short, I had B & E come back to my house 3 times, each time they promised me it was fixed, and now almost another year later, it is still leaking. "I supposedly won their contest at the State College Home Show 2022 for $1200 certificate. Rep came out and knew nothing about giving me the prize I won. Should have seen this as red flag. Window and entry door replaced anyway. Like the window. BUT, the door has major air draft coming in down the side and across the bottom. Have been calling repeatedly for 2 months leaving multiple messages- no return call since back in October. Company sent me letter 11/30 and called me that evening trying to get me to hire them to do more work. Assured me they would send someone to correct problem with initial work. Still have not received phone call or service visit from anyone in this company. Don't enter their contests at Home shows- I think they use this as way to get into your home to sell you their company when you haven't really won anything. and don't hire them to do any work. They will not fix any problems!!"

Yes, mixing siding types will affect your home value, and in most cases, it will improve curb appeal and add to the value of your home. This is especially true if you get the benefit of the high-end appearance of brick or stone siding but save on siding costs by covering most of the exterior with more affordable vinyl or fiber cement.

Acrylic latex paint is the best exterior paint for vinyl siding. It adheres well to the vinyl surface, reducing the likelihood that the paint will peel or flake.

Before applying paint to exterior surfaces, filling any cracks or gaps with caulk is essential. Sealing them with a combination of caulk and paint prevents moisture from damaging the paint or decaying the underlying material. You want to ensure the caulk you purchase can be painted over or that you opt for a caulk the same color as the paint.

You should stain your home's cedar siding every three to seven years for maximum protection and to maintain its appearance. Homeowners who live in harsh climates with high humidity and lots of direct sunlight should plan staining every three years, while those who live in milder locations can plan on seven. In particularly harsh climates, consider using an opaque stain variety for the longest-lasting protection.

Mildew grows into porous wood, making it more difficult to remove than regular dirt (and more destructive). We suggest using a dedicated mildew and mold fungicide to remove mildew, which is found in any local home improvement store. Apply a dose of the fungicide to the siding and leave to work according to the instructions, usually for an hour or two. Then wash it thoroughly away and scrub the spot again. Repeat the process if necessary. If nothing is removing the mildew stains, you should plan on removing those clapboard planks in time, as their damage could cause future problems.
