"Craig was both professional and personable during a four-day plaster restoration project that remediated a water-damaged ceiling and wall. He accommodated my schedule, came on time, and took care to protect the work space. He worked efficiently, but did not try to rush through when an unexpected complication - my vintage home has extra-thick plaster - required more drying time than usual. I was impressed by his work, and would recommend him without reservation."

"The price was right (the lowest of three bids) but - just as importantly - the job was done quickly and with top quality. In addition, Adam was the only contractor that looked over the job to be done who alerted me to a potential problem that I could easily solve by myself. While he was finishing up my drywall work, I offered to hire him to clean out a short section of gutter by my front porch. He did this work and then refused payment. Lastly, when the drywall work was done, he charged me $50.00 dollars less than his estimate ( he had previously told me that his estimate was for the maximum amount he would charge and that the final cost could be lower). He and his assistant cleaned up the work area to a level that was better than before the work had started. I recommend him highly!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Jim was great to work with. He was always responsive to questions, and the people that work for him are great too. Our house is very much a construction zone, so he had the code to our garage so he could come and go as he pleases. We would absolutely recommend Jim in the future for anyone who needs drywall install or repair work."

"When confronted with a crisis because of a copper plumbing burglary, Mr. Grady, of Grady's Painting, Plastering and Construction, willingly traveled many miles to come to my aid. Requesting only a $1.00 deposit against a $4,500.00 job, he masterfully reconstructed my nineteenth century lath and plaster hallway wall, also thoroughly compensating for a missing portion of a central stud unwittingly removed by a plumber! After his extensive search for appropriate composition and dimension of material, he replaced and replicated a section of my forty-year-old faux onyx tub surround with common white PVC sheet, tinted oil-based colors, glaze, paint brush, and a rag. His applied natural talents and superlative skills saved me thousands of dollars! On the basis of both professional conversation and knowledgeable observation, Mr. Grady possesses the intrinsic knowledge of old-world trades, the artistic capabilities, the problem=solving thought processes, and the personal work ethic to accomplish a broud scope of reconstruction and restoration."

"We just had a large portion of our home (the living room, stairwell, and second floor landing) painted by McEvoy Painting LLC this week and we were so impressed. Dave was prompt and organized when it came to scheduling our estimate and he gave us a very fair price for the amount of work being done. We have a 6 month old baby and he took that into consideration, using a non-VOC paint to keep the fumes low in the house. The job was finished a day early, the paint looked awesome, and my home did not smell like paint when I returned. I highly recommend Dave and McEvoy Painting! I will be using his services again in the future."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

You can repair plaster ceilings yourself after the cause of the ceiling damage has been addressed. However, the repair can easily take 5 hours and can be slightly challenging for those without previous experience. If you do decide to flex your DIY muscle, have a helper to help hold the ladder and pass you the tools for safety purposes.

Plaster provides a durable, soundproof, and moisture-resistant finish compared to drywall.

Yes, you can apply new plaster over an existing plaster surface, such as a wall or ceiling, provided the old plaster is in good condition. Before you begin, check the stability of the existing plaster. The surface must be clean, free of loose material, and have no peeling paint. It is also recommended to roughen the surface slightly to promote adhesion. For older plaster, applying a base coat like a PVA emulsion or a specific bonding agent or primer is crucial. This step makes the existing plaster less porous and ensures the new and old layers adhere properly for a smooth, long-lasting finish.

If your premixed drywall mud is dried out or has begun to set in the bucket, you may be able to revive it by adding warm water and stirring. However, the first and most important step is to scrape off any hard, dried bits of drywall that may have accumulated toward the top of the container and throw them away because they will not easily reconstitute back into the drywall mud mix.

While it’s most common to sand plaster dry, it is possible to wet-sand plaster, too. Doing so can reduce the amount of plaster dust released into the air and make it easier to work in smaller, more delicate areas (such as around wall trim). However, some people find that wet sanding leads to more imperfections, which is why larger walls are more often dry sanded to ensure an even finish.
