"Michelle. the owner of Spray Away Power Washing, is such a nice and pleasant person. More importantly, she provides an extremely professional and thorough service. She came over to the house, did an in depth assessment of what needed to be done, explained everything she saw that should be addressed, and gave me a more than fair estimate. I had called to get an estimate to power wash the 3 vinyl sides of the house, and Michelle gave me a price to do that, but she also did the front entrance, front side entrance, front sidewalk, and the back entrance! All included in the estimate. She and her assistant came over the next morning, and they did such a professional and thorough job, it took them over 4 hours!Wow! It is such a pleasure nowadays to deal with a company that is so professional, that takes pride in their work, gives you a great price, and really believes in customer service. I will definitely reach out to Spray Away Power Washing if I need their services in the future, and I will recommend them highly to anyone I know. If I could I would give the 11 stars! Fantastic!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

When installing deck boards, screws are generally a better option than nails. Screws offer superior holding strength over time, keeping the boards securely in place. In contrast, nails are more likely to pop out, which can create a tripping hazard. While you can use either, we recommend using 3-inch galvanized deck screws. To minimize the risk of cracking the wood, it's a good practice to drill small pilot holes before driving the screws into the deck joists.

Staining and sealing the underside of a deck creates a moisture barrier but traps water in the boards, quickly leading to rot. No matter how well you seal the above deck, water still gets through via nails and screw heads on the surface. Allow this water to flow naturally under the deck, where it is routed through the drainage system.

The overhang, or nosing, of deck steps is another area that will be covered in building code requirements. The noses on your deck steps should have a minimum overhang of ¾ inch. For safety, usability, and code compliance, the nosing of deck steps should not extend past 1¼ inches.

Composite decking may never warp, or it may warp quickly. Several factors can influence the rate of warping, including the material's quality, installation method, and installation location. Generally speaking, high-quality materials that have been installed properly are drastically less prone to warping.

Local building codes don’t specify the number of steps a deck can have before a railing is required, mainly because stair height varies widely. Most areas require decks 30 inches or higher to have a railing. While not exact, that roughly equates to four to seven steps.
