"Randy and his helper were very prompt, coming the very next day. They did an excellent job cleaning out my large garage. The garage had a loft but the roof had to be replaced and the back half of the roof had to be rebuilt. So the roofers removed the loft floor. The family that was here before us had stored quite a lot of items in the loft which were all junk. The roofers piled all the junk in the middle of the garage and that was some of the junk that Randy cleaned out for us. We also had some old appliances that Randy took. We now have a garage that we can actually use as a garage! We are having Randy come back next week to haul away some more junk. His work is excellent, he is a pleasant man to work with, and his price is very reasonable. I highly recommend Randy’s Hauling."
The kinds of items or materials accepted will vary by hauling company. Some companies will not handle hazardous waste, but hiring ones that do will cost from $5 to $100 or more, depending on what type and quantity of material.
Most companies will haul items such as:
Construction and remodeling waste: $100–$600
Appliances: $50–$600
Furniture: $50–$400
Electronics: $60–$200
Yard waste: $70–$500
The cost to hire a professional junk hauling service ranges from $60 to $600, averaging about $270. Your final price is determined by the type of junk, amount of junk, the distance to the dumpsite, and the equipment required to move and haul your items or materials. Keep in mind that construction junk removal is more expensive than hauling household items, so expect to pay $800 for removing large piles of debris.
Contact your local municipality to request garbage collection services. In most areas, your local city or municipality manages garbage collection, which contracts a waste collection company to do trash collection and other garbage collection and disposal services. However, if you can’t wait for the next trash collection day, you can also contact a local junk removal service to come and haul away your garbage. Confirm with any junk removal companies what items they will take. If you’re renovating your home or have a lot of garbage to get rid of, consider renting a dumpster.
A garbage collection pro or junk removal company can typically take anything from a single item such as refrigerator to the entire contents of a house or out-building being emptied. One exception is disposing of hazardous waste (like bleach or used oil), which is typically handled by your municipality. Check reviews, references, and qualifications of any company you hire to collect garbage. Ask what the company’s limitations are, what tools and equipment they use, and their availability.
Disposing of old paint, bleach, oil, and fertilizer should be handled by a company that specializes in this kind of waste. Many private junk removal companies do not dispose of these items. Because these materials are hazardous to the environment and dangerous to handle or dispose of improperly, you should confirm with your local municipality about places to take hazardous materials for safe disposal.
