"I would "highly" recommend Robert Horne Contracting for floor installation. We had previously bought our new flooring and we needed an installer. Robert Horne's office called me right away and came out to our home and gave us a "reasonable" estimate. He sent me an estimate for the work to be done within 24 hours. He did an "excellent" job installing our new floating floor and cleaned up after he was done. If we need any contracting needs in the future I would "definitely" use them again. Great service, kind, considerate, and cleans up."

Small jobs welcome

"Kuhns Construction did an outstanding job installing our vinyl plank flooring. The attention to detail was impressive, especially around the doorways, corners, and tight spaces where clean cuts and proper fitting really make a difference. The flooring was laid evenly throughout the room, and the finished product has a smooth, professional appearance that completely upgraded the look of the space. The crew was reliable, communicated well, and worked efficiently while maintaining a clean work area. They took the time to ensure everything was installed correctly and didn?t rush through the job. The dark wood-look vinyl plank turned out beautiful and gives the room a modern, high-end feel. We?re extremely happy with the results and would highly recommend Kuhns Construction to anyone looking for quality flooring installation. Great workmanship, fair pricing, and excellent customer service from start to finish!"

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

No subflooring is perfectly level, but you should never ignore any noticeable floor sagging. Most contractors deem a floor that slopes by a 1/2 inch to 1 inch per 20 feet of floor acceptable. Further investigation is required when the slope or sag is more than one and a half inches.

Yes, carpet tiles are easy to install—even if you don’t have much DIY experience. In fact, the simple installation process is one of the main reasons that people choose carpet tiles over traditional carpet. Since carpet tiles come in individual squares, they aren’t as heavy or awkward to install as regular carpet. Plus, you don’t need specialized equipment (like knee kickers or carpet stretchers) when installing carpet tiles.

Installing carpet padding is mostly a matter of measuring the room and cutting the carpet pad to size with a utility knife. You can save some money on carpet installation costs by doing it yourself. Before installing the carpet padding, you should install the tack strips around the room’s perimeter and prepare the subfloor by cleaning and making any necessary repairs. Then, unroll the carpet pad and cut sections as needed. Staple the carpet pad to the subfloor along the edges, leaving the tack strips exposed.

The difference between a 40-oz. and 60-oz. carpet is the carpet face weight, meaning the 60-oz. carpet weighs 20 ounces more per square yard. When looking at two similar carpets of the same material and type, the 60-oz. carpet face weight likely indicates higher quality and more durability due to heavier carpet fibers.

Moso bamboo, Phyllostachys edulis, is the most commonly used species for bamboo flooring. Moso bamboo is native to China and Taiwan, and it was later introduced to Japan and then the United States. In addition to flooring, Moso bamboo is used in textile production, and the shoots are edible. Moso is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, which is why it’s an affordable and sustainable option compared to traditional hardwood.
