Small jobs welcome

"We are very pleased with the quality of work. Martha kept us within our budget and the communication was great. Victor was very professional and respectful. Even though we only intended to have our kitchen countertops and backsplash replaced, we had a small bathroom nearby and Victor replaced the countertop in there too which also included the sink. Yes I will definitely work with them for future projects. PS- Victor brought sample tiles with three different grout colors that really helped us with deciding which color would work best."

There are a lot of reasons to choose Nelson Tile and Stone for your next Remodel. Our background is in tile so we know it well. In 2013 we added a showroom and countertop fabrication shop to our business. In 2016 we were the first in Bend with state-of-the-art countertop fabrication equipment (CNC). We also know our plumbing and showcase many current styles -without overwhelming you. What makes our service a game-changer is we are directly involved in nearly all the parts to your remodel with our expertise and our showroom offerings. We install the tile, we make your countertop and we supply the plumbing fixtures. We walk beside you through these areas as experts and not just the guy who hires out the subs. It makes a difference. From there we hire the plumber, coordinate your cabinets, lighting, mirrors, shower doors and demo. Our customers are surprised at the depth of our offerings. Downtime is minimal and soon you'll be enjoying your new space. Give us a call.

Stone Countertops questions, answered by experts

Using water when cutting stone drastically reduces the amount of dust that comes off the stone. It’s beneficial to cut down on the amount of dust for respiratory and other safety reasons, such as keeping your vision clear while using an electric tool. Even with protective eyewear, the dust can still cloud your safety glasses. You should always wear protective gear when cutting stone.

The frequency for sealing granite countertops depends on several factors, including the type of sealant used, the color of the granite, and how heavily the countertops are used. As a general guideline, resealing is often recommended every 12 to 18 months, but some sources suggest it could be as often as every few months or at least once a year.

The type of sealant is a major factor: water-based sealants may need reapplication every six months to a year, while more durable solvent-based sealants can last for five to 10 years. Additionally, factors like heavy kitchen traffic, frequent use of acidic cleaners, and lighter granite colors may require more frequent sealing to prevent staining.

To determine if your countertops need resealing, you can perform a simple water test. Place a few drops of water or a wet paper towel on an inconspicuous area of the granite. After 10 to 15 minutes, check the spot. If the water has beaded up, the seal is still intact. If the water has been absorbed and darkened the stone, it's time to apply a new coat of sealant. You can choose to seal the granite yourself or hire a professional to ensure it's done correctly.

One of the primary benefits of a soapstone countertop is that the material is heat-resistant. You can put a hot pan on soapstone, and it won’t scorch or crack. Despite being able to handle extreme heat, soapstone is much softer than granite, quartz and similar materials. This means that it scratches easily, so you should not prepare food directly on the surface.

Marble is high maintenance, like most other types of natural stone flooring. However, because it is naturally a more porous stone, there are a few added care instructions. You will need to clean it often to prevent dirt and grit from scratching the finish and surface, keep it dry, clean up spills immediately, and have it professionally sealed and refinished at least once a year to maintain the shine and water-tight surface. However, investing in maintenance is a smart move because marble floors are among the most beautiful and valuable types of flooring when properly cared for.

Silestone® is a low-maintenance countertop material, but certain things, like strong chemicals and solvents, can cause damage. Abrasive scrubs can cause scratches, and products that contain oil or powder can leave a residue. Finally, avoid letting oven cleaner come into contact with Silestone® because it can cause discoloration.
