"Excellent. Steve and Sandy maintained prompt phone and email contact as we settled on the scope of work. Steve visited the house a couple of times to estimate and plan the work, and was always considerate of our schedule and keeping punctual appointments. He was able to save us a lot of money by restoring our rusted out rail, making it work and look like new. We were impressed with his craftsmanship and eager to have him do all of our rails. Our front porch concrete had cracks from settling, but Steve figured out a way to fit the rail where it would be useful to us in spite of the cracks. If a fit or an angle didn't look just right to him, he took it back to his shop for correction. Our rails are rock solid and look great."

I work by myself to insure the job is done right every time, I will give you a bid and it will stay the same price every year. I can usually give you a bid within a couple days (sometimes a few pictures text to my number will get you a bid the same day) and start the job a couple after that. I can keep my costs down due to not advertising that other companies will have you pay for. I am insured, licensed and registered with the state. I work solely on word of mouth and free places such as here and craigslist.

"Signed a contract and paid deposit last April-nearly one year. I filed two complaints and no one will call me back. Materials were delivered to my driveway several weeks ago but no contractor was scheduled to complete the job. Job is still not started and we are avoiding the delivered siding every time we driveour car. Frustrating."

Baldwin Brothers Home Maintenance is a local company. We're a part of your local community and we're here to help. Many contractors do not want to deal with small projects, but that is our specialty. No project is too small, from landscaping & gutter cleaning to painting or home repairs we are here for you. Phil Baldwin has worked in the construction industry since he was a kid on the job site with his dad. Phil spent the last 13 years doing home and apartment maintenance for a local non-profit housing provider.

"Great help troubleshooting issues I wasn't able to do myself. Gave me all the time he could in his busy schedule and cleaned up when finished. Great communication. Hoping to hire again for a variety of odds and ends that need to be fixed or refinished."

Playground Equipment questions, answered by experts

Whether building a playground or installing a pre-made one is more affordable depends on the materials of each. In most cases, it’s more affordable to build a wooden playground than it is to buy one and have it professionally installed, but it might be less expensive to invest in a pre-made plastic playground, even if you pay a professional to install it. Wooden playgrounds tend to last longer, but as children age, they will become less valuable. Overall, it may be most affordable to have a pro install a pre-made plastic playground.

It’s usually possible to install a playground yourself, but we don’t recommend it. Playground construction can be complicated and involves moving large, heavy, and bulky components into place while you affix them to other pieces. Not only is the work physically demanding, but any mistakes could reduce the lifespan of your playground and potentially put any children who use the equipment at risk of injury. It’s relatively inexpensive to hire a professional playground installer, and it’s usually worth the investment, if only for the peace of mind it provides.

In most cases, yes, an outdoor living space adds value to your home. The trick to your best return on investment is to choose high-quality building materials that will look nice and durable without crossing the line into total luxury that becomes cost-ineffective. For example, there’s no need to install marble tiles around your pool, but a durable and aesthetically pleasing deck will go a long way.

You can start by finding playground installers in your area that have amassed mostly positive reviews online. Next, search for the companies on the Better Business Bureau’s (BBB) website to see if any consumer complaints have been filed. Once you rule out companies with poor reviews and a history of complaints, contact the remaining options and ask the following questions to find the right installer for you:

  • Will you pull permits if required?

  • Do you offer a warranty?

  • How long do you expect the installation to take?

  • Do you have experience working with the specific playground material I want?

Yes! It’s always a good idea to anchor your playset. Even though they’re heavy, it doesn’t take much wind to blow one over. Anchoring everything to the ground makes it a lot safer for your kiddos.
