"LeafFilter doesn't clean gutters, they sell and install their LeafFilter Gutter products and only clean the gutters if you buy their product. I can't even begin to afford their product so I wasn't able to get my gutter cleaned by them."

"I bought a $99 Roof Maintenance Package which was advertised on Angie's List as including a "roof inspection, caulking exposed nail heads on flashing, resealing around unsealed pipe collars, exhaust fans, vents, chimney flashing, replacing up to 5 bad shakes, checking for interior leaks (attic, insulation, ventilation inspection), and providing photos of other areas in need of repair and a summary report on any potential plan of action." I bought the package on Oct. 5, 2013. I have a cedar shake roof. Michael, the owner, and I exchanged emails and phone calls a few times to set up a time. I was not in a rush and told him I wouldn't mind waiting until after the rains started to increase our chances of detecting any leaks. In an email, I confirmed with him the details of the package.
Michael called on Oct. 26 to say he was in the area and could stop by in thirty minutes to complete the inspection. It hadn't really rained in weeks, but I was fine with it. He and his partner arrived an hour and a half later. They both were professional and friendly. I felt comfortable with them right at the outset. I again confirmed the details of the package with Michael with a printout I had. Michael's partner got on the roof and inspected the shakes and gutters while Michael and I went into the attic area and inspected the insulation, ventilation, and underside of the roof.
Michael and his partner shared what they each found. They indicated I could get 5-7 more years out of the roof, which was good news. About 260 shakes and 30 ridge caps needed to be repaired/replaced according to their inspection. Michael provided a written estimate of completing the repairs, including cleaning the roof and gutters. I wasn't looking to have my gutters cleaned because I do them myself but whatever.  When I asked about how the roof looked in terms of any caulking and resealing, Michael's partner indicated that everything looked good. When I asked about the replacement of five bad shakes as indicated in the Angie's List deal, I was told that would be included in the repair if I decided to hire Aden Roofing. Hmmmm....... When I asked about photos of the roof areas that needed repairs, Michael said he had a camera with him but then never followed up on that. Hmmmmm.......
Now, I'm not an expert DIY guy, but I do some basic work around the house, including plumbing, electrical, and the like. I'm also not going to get bent out of shape about 5 cedar shakes, however, I do like to get what I pay for and that's where my frustration lies. I paid $99 for a particular deal that included 5 new shakes and photos of areas needing repairs. A hundred bucks is a lot of money in my house. I could have called a very well-known local roofing business and received a free inspection and estimate without expecting a few new shakes, caulking, resealing, and photos. Why would I pay a hundred bucks for something that I could get for free, especially right before the holidays? I could have spent that hundred bucks buying new shakes and doing the minor repairs myself, which is probably what I'll end up doing anyway.
Again, Michael and his partner were very friendly and professional. I just don't think our understanding of the details of the "deal" I got were the same. If you're just looking for a roof inspection and estimate, there are plenty of places that will do them at no cost. If you're ready to repair or replace your roof, I think Michael knows what he's doing and can help you. He stated he was a builder so he must know his way around home projects. He also reports he can do insulation. As a matter of fact, a week after the inspection, I received an Angie's List email for a $99 "deal" on attic insulation. It was Michael's company.

"Jose was able to remedy our mossy roof and dirty gutters & was able to fit us into his schedule quickly. Our roof was brush cleaned and moss treated in the really bad spots and gutters cleaned out. He spent extra time cleaning up all the moss from our property (deck/walking paths etc) and overall provided an excellent service for us. We will use Jose for our future roof and exterior maintence needs."

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Absolutely—and lots of it. Overflowing water from your gutters can damage your siding and your roof. All of the moisture getting into the cracks and crevices of your home can lead to mold or mildew problems down the line. In addition, when water pools around your home, it needs a place to go—and sometimes it ends up inside the house, creating a very unwanted flood.

Buried downspouts can freeze during cold weather as cold water runs through them. If you’ve discovered your downspouts are frozen, you can carefully pour hot water down the top of the downspout to defrost them. If that doesn’t work, you may need to dig your downspout back up. Avoid trying to break the ice from the exterior using a hammer as this can cause cracks and damage to your downspout.

To avoid freezing the future, consider adding a heating cable to the exterior, which can adjust heat based on the surrounding temperature.

Frequently, when water flows over gutters, it indicates a potential clog, necessitating cleaning. For instance, if a twig becomes lodged in the downspout, it can lead to a traffic jam, causing more leaves and sticks to accumulate. Another potential issue is an incorrect pitch, as gutters should channel water toward the downspout. If you observe water overflowing the end cap or leaking through it, it suggests that your gutters are improperly tilted.

Water should not be dripping behind your gutters. Rain dripping between your gutters and the fascia might indicate that the gutters are misaligned with the fascia board or there are loose screws in the gutters, allowing water to pass through. Start by checking for these issues and make repairs ASAP.

Yes, you can use a pressure washer to effectively clean debris, dirt, and grime from your gutters, but it must be done with caution to avoid damage. Always use a low-pressure setting, with a recommended range between 1,200 and 1,800 PSI. Excessive pressure can bend or dent aluminum gutters, damage seams, peel paint, or even knock shingles off your roof, potentially leading to leaks and moisture issues. For a safer alternative, consider soft washing or cleaning them by hand. When using a pressure washer, it is safer to use gutter elbow extensions from the ground rather than climbing a ladder, as the force can cause instability. Due to the risks, you may want to hire a licensed and insured contractor for the job.
