"I looked everywhere to try and find someone that could build a Murphy bed for me (I had the hardware kit) and finally, I found Chris. This has been an absolute pleasure from start to finish! The communication was excellent. We talked over what I wanted and he made it happen. He also gave me some options that allowed me to save some money which I really appreciated when material prices kept going up. He was always considerate of my time as we tried to maneuver through my continually changing work schedules, etc. Honestly, I am so thrilled and it is even better than I imagined!"

We started Old School Interiors to deliver quality professional services that you can trust. We specialize in water/flood & fire restoration, small & large restorations/remodels, custom cabinets, flooring & railings. Family owned & operated will all possible phases of your project completed "in house"

"This is an outline of issues we had: Clarity At our first meeting, Jason Schrader stated that the cabinets would be constructed and installed onsite, therefore saving time. He told us that cabinets could be constructed and installed in one week. The fact is that cabinets were not constructed onsite – only the boxes. Communication We had no idea when crews might show up at our job unless I texted to ask first. Clear start and end times and completion dates were never given. Crews were often late or never showed up at all on days we were told to expect them. Crews always told us we had to ask Jason about any scheduling, progress, material issues or plans. He was frequently unavailable to ask. Pace of work Crews were mostly on-site for less than 2 hours at a time. In over four months, OSI was unable to construct cabinets for our small kitchen (approximately 600 square feet). Furthermore, we made the house accessible every working day at the expense of our own schedule. The cabinet boxes were on the walls for several weeks, during which time stain and seal could have been applied. Had the boxes been stained and sealed before the countertop/backsplash and flooring were installed, then OSI crew would not have had to use a whole extra day to tape and cover everything before staining and sealing. Honesty We were presented with a bill for an additional $1200 for the ceiling work. At the time we discussed this work, Jason did not provide a change order or any paperwork to justify the additional expense. He also promised to finish the job at least six times that we have documented in texts to us. It is obvious that OSI never intended to meet those deadlines, nor even did any work on our cabinets during those weeks, as Jason wrote he was doing in the texts. He also constantly contradicted his own words, texts and promises, which leads us to believe that he has a tenuous connection with the concept of truth. Professionalism Old School Interiors took advantage of our goodwill to delay and extend this job far beyond a reasonable timeframe. Jason made it clear in his text of August 16 that we should be grateful that crews showed up at all, when we paid for a job that should have been done in a timely manner. Jason Schrader failed to uphold an appropriate client to professional relationship and demanded that we follow decorum while at the same time disregarding our feelings of frustration and even going so far as to upbraid me for completely understandable dismay at the endless delays. He also used the excuse of taking offense at my words to abandon the jobsite for over three weeks. ‘Taking offense’ is not a valid reason to abandon a job, as well as a flimsy and thin-skinned excuse to delay doing contracted work. Attitude Jason Schrader was hostile to other contractors, especially our countertop/backsplash estimator, to the point that the contractor asked to return later when Jason was not on site. Jason sent inappropriate emails to my personal account and called me at home after working hours to demand I discuss a review I posted. His attitude has generally been one of petulance, arrogance and immaturity. Integrity It has been clear to us since early in the job that we are not a high priority for OSI. Although we were told initially that our job would be done quickly, this promise was completely abandoned and each time we asked for an update, we were given long lists of excuses. The reality is that this remodel is important to us and we are your clients. Every client should be treated with respect. We were not. Several emails we sent to Old School Interiors went unanswered. We tried several times to obtain updates and firm dates, and these requests were not answered. The dates OSI did give us were fictitious. Ultimately, OSI couldn’t even finish the job. Every other company we worked with during the remodel communicated clearly, gave us firm dates, showed up and performed their work quickly, efficiently, and well. The situation we encountered with Old School Interiors falls far below the standard of good business practices."

Cabinet Making questions, answered by experts

It’s best to stick with lightweight cabinets, such as medium-density fiberboard, if you don’t have a wall stud to secure them to. Unless you’re attaching the cabinet to a flat board attached to wall studs, it’s best not to risk it with heavy cabinetry or contents. Solid wood cabinets and heavy dishware should be avoided if you cannot secure the cabinet to a wall stud. Either way, always check the weight on your wall anchors and be sure not to exceed it.

When deciding between stripping or sanding kitchen cabinets, the short answer is it depends on the condition of your cabinets and your end goal for them. If the cabinets are in fairly good condition and don’t have several layers of paint on them, sanding is a good option. On the other hand, older cabinets with more blemishes or marks will benefit from paint stripping, since it will give any future finishes a clean slate.

It’s a good idea to give your cabinets a quick once-over every week. Every six months or so, you may want to double down on the elbow grease and give the exteriors a more thorough wipe down. Additionally, you'll probably need to pull out all the stops once a year to really deep clean the interior. If you’re not too keen on the idea of cleaning your own kitchen cabinets, you can always hire a house cleaner near you to tackle it for you. They’ll have the expertise to make sure every cabinet is spotless.

No, millwork doesn’t refer only to wood. Millwork materials include soft and hardwood lumber, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), polymer, and composites. While some people may prefer soft or hardwood materials, others opt for MDF, polymer, or composites because they tend to be more budget-friendly. Additionally, wood millwork components tend to be more visually appealing and last longer.

A medicine cabinet on its own won’t add a lot of value, but is in general considered to be a good feature to have. Since any added storage is desirable, a medicine cabinet can improve resale value some. Making your bathroom more functional is appealing to buyers if you’re looking to sell your home.
