The Heat Pump Store specializes in the sales and installation of ductless heating and air conditioning systems. Ductless Heat Pumps are all we do and we do them right — the right equipment, the right applications and the right people! Our business was founded in 2006 by Jeff and Jan Pratt, and our first work was in Monmouth, Oregon with a pilot program sponsored by the Bonneville Power Administration and Monmouth Power & Light. This pilot project helped provide important energy efficiency data to the regional utility programs. Since 2006, we have slowly grown to serve the Willamette Valley, the Oregon Coast, the Portland Metropolitan Area, Vancouver and SW Washington, and, in 2012, we opened in Tacoma, WA and Medford, OR. Local utility rebates and tax credits combined with reduced energy consumption make ductless heating and air conditioning systems the smartest choice for home comfort. Let our expert Ductless Applications Specialists introduce you to this efficient and innovative HVAC technology.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

To reset your air conditioner, start by turning it off at the thermostat. Then, shut off power to the AC system at the circuit breaker. Next, find the “reset” button on your AC unit and hold it for three to five seconds. The unit should beep several times. If your air conditioner doesn’t have a reset button, leave the circuit breaker off for 30 minutes. Afterward, turn the power back on at the breaker and program the thermostat to “cool” to test the system.

Yes. Your air supply should be balanced. The return and supply ducts need to maintain that balance, and this only occurs because an equal amount of air should be entering and leaving your HVAC system. Changes in pressure, extreme weather, and blocking vents with furniture or your stuff can make the air supply unbalanced and cause your home to get too cold or hot.

No, it’s not normal for AC vents to drip condensation. A sweating AC vent is a sign of something wrong and can lead to issues like air duct rust or mold growth. Your HVAC unit might not be working efficiently because of a dirty filter or clogged ducts. Alternatively, your ductwork might not have adequate insulation, which allows the cool air in the ducts to meet the humid air outside, causing condensation.

One of the fastest ways to unfreeze an AC unit is to turn off the unit and, if it’s warm outside, use the fan-only mode to help blow warmer air through the unit to speed up the defrosting process. While it may be tempting to use a hair dryer to defrost the air conditioner, that high heat can damage the coils.

After defrosting, if you can safely solve the issue with a fix like changing the filter, go ahead and do so. Otherwise, call in a pro before turning your AC back on.

There are likely dozens of HVAC repair companies that service your area, and choosing the right one can be a tricky process. To hire the right HVAC technician, we recommend reaching out to local companies and ask the following questions:

  • Are you licensed and insured?

  • Do you have any third-party certifications?

  • Do you often work on my specific type of HVAC system?

  • Do you provide any warranty for your work?

  • Do you offer maintenance contracts for ongoing savings?

  • How many years of experience do you have?
