"One thing about this town that drives me crazy, is that it's incredibly difficult to get service providers to do what they say, and do good work, and that's if they even show up! Buggy Bob's Pest Control is THE exception to the rule. I was doing some remodel work, and came across what I thought was a termite infestation. The mud tubes, the tracks, all of it was very evident, and my first thought was that my wallet is about to get a lot lighter. I saw that Buggy Bob's had by far, the highest reviews on Home Advisor, so I scheduled him to come out and take a look. He showed up on the day scheduled and exactly on time! We walked through the house, and he explained exactly what he was looking for. He eased my mind, and showed me exactly where prior treatments and preventative termite maintenance had been done previously (as it's an older home). He showed me that even though I was right to be concerned, what I had stumbled upon was old evidence of termites. And, actually what I had been doing all along in keeping my house free of bugs was actually working! Talk about shocked! Not only was he honest about what he found, he didn't even try selling me anything! I respect that, because he could have come in, and convinced me that my house was weeks away from collapsing down around me, and had me writing a check today! All I can say is... If you are needing help with eliminating the creepy, crawly things in, on and around your house, please get ahold of Bob. Let him come out, and wow you too! I promise, you won't regret it!"

"Both the inspector and the treatment guy were very friendly and professional. The inspector assessed our problem as an infection with fleas from a pet bird and he appeared to be right, however, the treatment guy said that he should have also checked for bedbugs. The treatment for fleas seem to have corrected our problem."

"Terminix was quick to respond and to get out here for a termite inspection, which is what we needed. However, they signed us up for pest control and said their agent would be out to care for us right away. So far haven’t seen him yet. Will give 5 stars if that turns out well."

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

DIY removal of birds or bats is not recommended due to safety risks and potential legal protections for certain species. While simple prevention methods can be done yourself, actual removal and control of an infestation should be handled by professionals who are familiar with safe, humane, and effective techniques.

Woodpeckers usually feed on homes when there is a food source present, and termites are one possible source. However, the presence of woodpeckers doesn’t necessarily mean there are termites. They may also be feeding on more harmless insects like ants or spiders. If woodpeckers seem drawn to one particular part of your home’s siding, it might be worth hiring a termite inspector to check for the presence of these pesky critters.

Pest control timelines depend on what services are being provided, size and type of infestation, and size of your home. Some inspections can take an hour or more, while preventative treatments only take 30 minutes to complete. Basic spaying for a problem like roaches or termites can take about an hour for small homes, but much longer for large properties and infestations. Consult your pest control pro for a time estimate based on your situation.

Certain strong smells may help repel bats, though this is not a foolproof method and is best used in conjunction with other deterrence strategies. Scents like peppermint oil, eucalyptus, cinnamon, cloves, and mint are often suggested as natural remedies. To create a spray, you can mix two cups of warm water with half a cup of sugar and a few drops of your preferred essential oil. Apply this mixture using a spray bottle to possible entry points and throughout the affected area, such as an attic. While this home remedy is popular, evidence supporting its effectiveness is limited.

Finding a dead bat in your home can be frightening, even during spooky season. The United States Department of Interior states that if you find a dead bat, take these steps:

  • Contact your state wildlife agency to report the finding

  • Photograph the bat safely to help the wildlife agency determine the species

  • Use disposable gloves to place the bat into a plastic bag, making sure to spray with disinfectant and close the bag securely

  • Thoroughly clean your hands and any clothing that came into contact with the bat

If you see one dead bat, you might have a large bat infestation that needs to be treated immediately. Call a local pest control company to properly inspect your home for other bats.
