"Eric and Smalltown Property Revival are a true blessing. I had multiple projects going, including ac window install, replacing smoke alarms, hauling, furniture moving, linoleum tile removal, chain-link fence replacement, plus rebuilding a deck and lattice work. They then installed French doors that were on back-order and proceeded to construct a cute pallet fence for me out of pallets that were taking up space and collecting debris in my basement! This company is amazing."

"As Trent said normally they do not do wrought iron fences, but he looked at ours and gave us a qoute. We accepted and today Trent and his father came out to do the work.  Our sun faded wrought iron fence looks new again.  Both men worked hard and fast.  They were neat and prepared the surrounding areas to avoid over spraying.

Perfect work, clean up perfect.  Not sure why anyone would not use or recommend Central OK Fence Staining.  We will call them for any other future work we need done."

"Bryan at Hartys was very helpful in planning my project as well as performing the work he also showed me a few places that I could save money along the way that was very much appreciated as he could have made more for himself just by keeping quiet his crew was so very accommodating while they were here they helped my wife carry in boxes that she had delivered without being asked and the things they cleaned for us were absolutely spotless we are totally satisfied with the work as well as the crew we will have them back 100% out of 100%"

"They made our old house look like a new one, it never looked better.  'These Men had lots of prep work to do prior the painting, there was never a complaint. They are very thorough and detailed and cleaned up behind themselves as an extra bonus, and that is hard to find. All in all, they are great Guys, doing great work we can highly recommend. We now can even think of them as our new friends."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

When staining a deck, don’t skip surface prep, avoid staining damp or dirty boards, and don’t apply stain in extreme heat, cold, or wet conditions. Never overload the wood with a stain, as too much can cause tackiness or peeling. Also, don’t forget to test a small area first to ensure the color and finish look right.

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

The best and fastest way to remove paint from a deck often involves combining a chemical stripper with a pressure washer. Gel-based paint strippers are highly recommended because their thick consistency makes them less messy and easier to apply than liquid strippers. After applying the stripper to loosen the paint, you can use a pressure washer to efficiently wash away the residue. When using a pressure washer for this task, it's important to use a low pressure (under 1000 PSI) to avoid forcing too much moisture into the wood, which could lead to mildew or rot.

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

Finding a reputable deck builder should start with speaking with a local company and asking for samples of past work and references. You can review the company’s workmanship and speak with past customers to learn what the customer service was like throughout the process. It’s also a good idea to read online reviews and check the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website to see if the company has a history of customer complaints. If you can get a referral from a family member or friend, that’s another great option.
