"Honest family business that does outstanding work, quickly? How can you top that. He explained a lot about lightning and the various dangers. Given my tall, metal roofed home in a wooded setting, I needed lightning protection. I've never had a problem in 23 years, until the past 3 months. The frequency and intensity of electrical storms is increasing. I had two close calls (at the expense of over $1,000 of electronics (that I had plugged into expensive surge protectors!) With something as important as lightning protection, go with experience. Red, White, and Blue has that!"

"Nothing is wrong with our standby generator right now but we were being proactive and looking for a company for emergency service calls and to perform the annual maintenance. Although they have not actually performed any work for us yet, their rates were very reasonable and more competitive than others we talked to and we have scheduled Faith Electric to perform our annual maintenance in March 2018."

"Very prompt professional and knowledgeable about his trade family business where he and his son are on job site at all times and installed a concealed system where all the cables where hidden in the attic and from what I ve seen it was done even neater up there than most of the exterior work I ve seen everything was tight straight and uniform and when the job was completed made sure all of my questions were answered and went over every detail about the service they provided have done several other jobs in the area and I m quite sure with they re work ethics and working around my schedule they ll be doing several more would highly recommend to anyone that needs lightning protection installed unless your looking for them you are hard pressed to even notice the lightning rods are on there all you can see are the 3/8 in diameter copper air terminals protruding thru the roof 10 inches which is the minimal you can use because I didn t want them to take away from the looks of my house also instead of running a bead of sealant around the air terminals he put a flashing on every one that s made for flat roofs with ponding water and filled with a polyurethane sealant so no worry s about leaks EVER and he put it in writing if anything at all goes wrong with the system for the lifetime of the house barring any changes such as new additions or remodeling there s never a charge to repair anything they installed or if a surge protection device goes bad that is replaced for free as well thanks for the prompt professional service would recommend mike Gorman lightning protection to anyone"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, electricians must be licensed, certified, and in most cases, insured. Licensing requirements vary by state and local municipality, but most U.S. municipalities require electricians to hold an electrical contractor’s license. It's always a good practice to confirm requirements with your local municipality. Even if licensing is not required in your area, hiring a licensed and experienced electrician often leads to a better end result.

A license is a legal requirement to operate a business and is necessary for pulling project permits. Certifications, on the other hand, are typically voluntary and demonstrate a certain level of expertise. In some cases, a certified electrician may send an apprentice or journeyman to perform the work, but they must operate under a primary electrician who holds the proper license.

Before hiring, you should verify the electrician's license, insurance coverage, and any third-party certifications. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing search to confirm a pro's license status. Additionally, businesses with the “Angi Approved” badge on our platform meet strict criteria, including having the required state and local licenses, passing a background check, and maintaining a high average rating.

Yes, a hot or overheating outlet is a fire hazard and can cause a fire. An outlet becoming hot indicates an electrical problem, such as an overloaded circuit, loose connections, or a faulty component. The heat from these issues can ignite nearby flammable materials like curtains or furniture. If you notice an outlet is hot to the touch, turn off the power at the circuit breaker, unplug any connected devices, and consult a qualified electrician. If a fire does start, use a Class C fire extinguisher or baking soda to suppress it, or evacuate immediately and call the fire department.

Yes, you can run an above-ground electrical conduit and stay within National Electrical Code safety guidelines. Just make sure you check the code requirements of your project with the local building regulations office. You should work with a local electrician to complete this type of project due to the personal safety hazards.

A circuit breaker flipping off when it detects an overloaded circuit isn’t a problem, but flipping the switch frequently can damage it and eventually cause an electrical hazard. If you’re going on a long vacation or leaving your home for the season, you should avoid turning off your circuit breaker to prevent electrical damage to your system.

If your outlet needs to be reset multiple times, you likely have a problem with the outlet, the reset button, the wiring, or its connected circuit breaker. If the reset button doesn’t work and the circuit breaker isn’t the issue, it’s likely a problem with the outlet or the reset button it’s attached to.
