"Donny is great to work with and he knows how to properly irrigate a lawn. Iâ  m getting ready to get some help restoring my fescue lawn and I wanted to make sure my sprinkler system would support everyoneâ  s work. We ran each station and Donny walked into each zone to study the coverage. This was a cloudy rainy day and he told me what needed to be done in each zone as he got soaked. I had to run some errands about town, when I got back Donny explained everything he had added to improve my coverage. He changed things & added parts that I had never heard of. Donny upgraded my system in a timely manner & a fair cost. I highly recommend Rockwell Irrigation."

"Had our driveway and sidewalks pressure washed and they look brand new. I knew they were dirty but couldn’t believe how dirty they actually were until I saw how clean they got them. They were super friendly and professional, we will for sure use them again!"

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

While it’s possible to grow grass seeds by throwing them down, this isn’t the best way to plant them. By amending and prepping the soil beforehand, you’re providing optimal contact between seed and soil for a better chance at germination. If you throw them down without preparing the soil beforehand, seeds are more likely to blow away, get eaten by hungry birds, or never grow.

Soaking grass seeds in water before seeding is called pre-germinating. It’s not necessary but can be very helpful in some cases. Some grasses like are very slow to germinate, and basic seeding on the ground is unlikely to be effective—that’s especially true of cool season grasses like Kentucky bluegrass, rye grasses, and Bermuda grass. Soaking these seeds in a bag or bin of water for one to four days beforehand can give the grass the start it needs to survive.

Yes, after the lawn is overseeded post-aeration, most of the seed germinates in the aeration holes. This leaves the soil undisturbed while lush and healthy grass will grow in the holes' place. The point of this is to create extra turf density in areas that really need it, such as a large patch of dead grass where a shed used to be.

If the grass is dead, you cannot bring it back to life. However, you can grow new grass in its place or try the methods mentioned above to revive the grass if it isn’t entirely dead. You can expect St. Augustine grass to come back after moderate droughts, but it will suffer significant nutrient loss after an extended period of drought.

Unfortunately, no. Grass seeds need a lot of moisture until they become sprouts, so this is an especially sensitive time. While they'll dry out if they get dehydrated, over-watering creates other problems. The grass seeds don't recover because they can just wash away or even rot, making for low germination rates. The ones that do germinate after being pushed under the soil may start to sprout only to die from lack of sunlight.
