"We had saved up for a long time for new countertops, this was a big purchase for us, and we were being VERY picky and had an extremely difficult time choosing our fabricator even after we met with every pro on home advisor as well as the other list. (We even went out to the granite supplier and dropped names with some of the workers, who told me in no uncertain terms that these guys were the real deal, and have been one of their biggest stone customers in town for more than 20 years... this was before we hired them... These guys were not only the most professional at the time of the bid, they were extremely well priced, and every member of the crew that I met was a pleasure to work with; you could tell they really cared about making a good product. Every single request--- every little detail that we asked for (and we asked for MANY) was accomplished. Even when we decided to change our countertop layout after they had originally measured, they were happy to come out and re-template. ...such unusually awesome work ethic. They even went out of their way to have their supplier bring in a larger slab, when other companies said we needed to buy two, this saved us hundreds!!! The final product, is absolutely beautiful. These are some of the best countertops we have seen anywhere- and they are in our home. We will be using EA again when we are ready to do our other countertops. Nothing but good things to say!!! You can trust these guys. (Oh, btw, they didn't ask for a single dollar until the job was done and I was completely satisfied.)"

"Pleased overall with the bathrooms and kitchen countertops. Very polite, prompt, took care with walls, mirror and cabinets. They could improve on the finer details like polishing and sealing backsplash tops, small chips on edges and 1/2 inch measuring mistakes on several overhangs, things only I would notice. Looks beautiful overall. Great job for the money."

"Edgar was courteous, quick, professional, and went out of his way to make sure I was happy with the product. He even helped beyond the countertop install to make sure everything was as it should be. The area was left swept, neat and clean. I would definitely recommend him for any of your quartz or stone countertop needs."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can install a new layer of laminate over an existing laminate countertop, which can save you time and money while updating its appearance. The process is similar to installing laminate directly onto particle board. First, clean the existing countertop thoroughly. Next, fill and sand any cracks or damaged areas. Then, you'll need to sand or scratch up the entire surface to help the contact cement or glue adhere properly. After applying the adhesive, you can install the new laminate layer on top. If you're looking for other ways to improve your existing laminate countertops, you could also consider painting them or applying an epoxy finish.

With the cost of kitchen countertops ranging from $1,900 to $4,300, you’ll want to choose a countertop material that’s durable and cost-effective. Marble countertops will come in on the high-end, whereas corian, quartz, stainless steel, and granite will run in the middle range. Butcher block and laminate are the most budget-friendly—and many DIYers choose to install butcher block on their own because it’s one of the more accessible countertops.

There are several significant differences between laminate and quartz countertops. Quartz is much pricier than laminate but can last for decades, while laminate lasts around 15 years. Laminate can’t be repaired or resealed and is easier to damage than quartz, which can be repaired. Both quartz and laminate are prone to heat damage. Usually, the choice comes down to your budget.

Concrete countertops require regular upkeep to maintain their appearance and durability, and are generally considered harder to maintain than other materials. For daily cleaning, use a mild, pH-neutral cleaner and avoid harsh, acidic products that can damage the sealant. It is crucial to wipe up spills immediately, especially from acidic substances, as concrete stains easily. To protect against stains and moisture, the countertops must be resealed periodically—at least once a year, if not more frequently. Additionally, use a cutting board to avoid scratching the surface. Be aware that concrete is also prone to cracking over time, which may require repairs.

Deciding between marble and granite for kitchen countertops depends on your personal priorities, budget, and style. Both materials have similar costs for material and installation.

Marble offers a luxurious aesthetic and timeless beauty, but it is more expensive and requires more maintenance. It is susceptible to staining and etching from acidic substances like coffee, wine, or tomato sauce if spills are not cleaned up quickly.

Granite is highly durable, heat-resistant, and easier to maintain, making it a practical choice for busy kitchens.

Both materials should be sealed to protect against damage, but they can still be vulnerable to stains if spills are left on the surface for too long.
