At most, polybutylene pipes last 10 to 15 years. The material is simply not durable enough to withstand some of the chemical elements found in our water supply, such as fluoride and chlorine. The only exception would be if the backup is occurring because of local flooding and only if your city uses a combined drainage system for stormwater and sewage.
