My priorities were to a sparkling clean bathroom, vacuum/mop floors in all rooms, a few dirty spots on walls (compliments of my labs and their tails), dust living room and bedrooms really well, including ceiling fans, electronics, lamps in each room, window blinds, closet doors that are the blinds style. If there was time left, I asked for an attempt at some marks on the front door, which I had given up on myself, after several attempts to clean. And then if any time was left after that, maybe wipe down appliances in the kitchen. I elected to meet her to let her in the house. She sent me a text message, about 10:30 am, when she was on her way, I met her at the house. I put the dogs in our garage with a baby gate up. She greeted the dogs. (Amee also provides dog walking services.) I provided payment upon her arrival. Then she got to work immediately with her employee cleaning. Before I left the house I could already smell the wonderful scent of the cleaners. Very pleasant, and not at all like a chemical scent. She updated me with a text at 4:00 that they were still cleaning for a bit longer but would be finished by 4:45. I offered to come home and get the dogs, and pay an additional fee if needed. She declined and said no need for additional fee, her estimate on time required was just a bit low. She locked the door on her way out. I came home to a house that smelled fantastic and looked wonderful. They did a great job at hitting my priorities. The electronics in our living room have never looked so good. The bathroom smelled the best. I wanted to just hang out and breathe the light, pretty smell. Even though kitchen appliances were last on my list, they got the stove top really well- all the burners, and underneath, inside and out of our large convection toaster oven, and wiped down the counters/other appliances. Those marks on my front door where I gave up- gone! Front door looks ten times better. All the marks on the walls are gone. It was amazing to come home and just revel in a sparkling house I didn't have to clean. She also gave me some great tips for dealing with allergies, and dogs, and some product recommendations specific to our home. I've already tried 2 of them, and love them.

Hank Henry came to our home and reviewed our project and asked many questions about what we wanted. He's a very competent guy and did a good job to understand our needs. He built a proposal for us a week later and I went to their showroom to review it. They are professional operation with all of the potential elements on display for you to see and select. We made our selections and had him update his proposal accordingly. The price of course did rise (there is only one direction with most pool companies so negotiate hard BEFORE you sign a contract. We reviewed proposals from 6 other pool companies and eliminated most almost immediately. It came down to three strong contenders, Riverbend, Advance and Gold Medal Pools. All three had good recommendations and made very professional proposals. The prices for the project ranged from over $100K to $65 for the stripped down version (so yes, there are big differences in price). Riverbend fell roughly in the middle and they were willing to move on price to meet where we wanted to be. Advance (Brian) Pools is a much smaller company, but very competent so would absolutely consider them in the future, but in the case they were not very competitive in terms of the product offering compared to the two larger companies. In reviewing their proposal, I would highlight following strengths: - 1/2" Rebar (much stronger than the 3/8" that most pool companies use) - Very competent in terms of equipment offering (I personally like Jandy) - Smart approach to plumbing your pool by running pipes through a single trench so they are easier to service -Design in terms of Spa - recommended a Captain's Chair (4 jet chair) in the spa, which was a great idea. -Most of the people who would work on your pool are their employees (higher accountability), but still some contractors (ask this question) -They use dry gunite, which is shot in place (stronger) -Gravel rock base instead of just sand and they build walls on own footing (not on deck) Weaknesses: -They tend to use the cheaper rocks and boulders for copping (Oklahoma River & Flagstone) instead of Arkansas, which is harder -Hank is a nice guy, but got a bit impatient with us toward the end and was ready to move on to the next customer -Design was not as good as some of the others (less creative) and they did not have the 3d modeling demo that most places use, which really helps you visualize what its going to look like. -they push Salt systems, which have more reliability issues and require more maintenance for your rocks and decking Ultimately, it was a very tough decision and I feel we would have likely been happy if we had gone with them as they are quality company. Interestingly, when we made the decision to go with their competitor I held off communicating to them for a few days in case anything went wrong (which we know can happen) and I never heard from Hank. I would have thought he would contact me to find out what I was doing, but never heard from him. Made me feel a little better about our decision though. I would have shared this feedback with him as well. Ultimately, I would say they are a quality organization and if you like their design then you could do a lot worse than working with them. A couple of tips for people building pools: -Negotiate the sewer and gas reroute into the cost of the pool (unless you are 100% sure its not going to be touched as it will) -Negotiate ANYTHING you think you want upfront as the day you sign the contract, EVERY change costs you. -Over estimate your decking as you will want more, trust me. It doesn't cost anything to reduce it later as the cost is 2X once you agree to move forward... -Review the plans in detail, THEY ALL PROMISE things that don't show up in the plan. Over-clarify and GET IT IN WRITING! They quickly "forget" what they promised to do. I have had to do a couple times already... -IT will take longer than you think, it always does...6 weeks? No way, 8-10 weeks is far more realistic if its an intricate pool. -Negotiate any landscaping repair you want UP FRONT, or you will get your yard back looking like a moonscape...they do not replace grass unless you specifically ask in the contract... -All pool companies try to get as much up front as possible, keep in mind that you want to hold back about 10% to make sure they finish the job. They will push back, but will take the work and you get piece of mind that it gets done. Most of the work he did alone and without damage to fences or the yard. Highly competent, very low cost compared to others we contacted who wanted almost 3 times as much. Being retired on SS, we couldn't afford to have him haul out the cut up trees but we had another source that came and finished up everything for the firewood use. Polishing a concrete floor isn’t as expensive as it sounds—it’s actually one of the more budget-friendly upscale flooring options out there. On average, it costs $4,500, with most projects falling between $1,000 and $8,000 . When you’re working with an existing slab of concrete, you skip material costs entirely, so it’s even more affordable. If you want a glossy, durable floor without paying hardwood or tile prices, polished concrete delivers serious shine without the sticker shock.
Yes, such as stamping, staining, and exposed aggregate for aesthetic appeal.
Yes, you can pour concrete over an existing concrete patio to resurface it. This is a common repair method called resurfacing. For the best results, the old concrete should be clean and free from debris, and the new slab should be at least three to four inches thick and contain reinforcements, like fiberglass fibers or wire mesh, to avoid cracking.
The trick to getting a smooth finish when pouring concrete is to smooth the surface of the concrete with a magnesium float. This tool helps bring the finer, smoother aggregate to the surface for a cleaner finish. Don’t overdo the floating process, though, or the slab can become weaker and start to scale.
You can paint concrete with paint rollers. In fact, using paint rollers is considered one of the easiest ways to evenly apply paint on concrete. A paint roller with a 1/2- to 3/4-inch-thick nap—which is basically a fabric paint roller cover—is best for painting concrete. The thicker the nap, the more paint it can hold to fill those pesky concrete cracks and crevices.
