"A crew from Groundworks installed eight floor supports and encapsulated our crawl space last week. Jorge, Isaac, Kenny, Zacch, and Anthony did a great job! They worked very long hours to complete our project in a timely fashion and were great to interact with. They identified several plumbing and air duct problems and brought them to my attention. Jorge, the team leader, was great about communicating with me and keeping me well informed. The after job clean-up was very thorough. Jorge has been available by phone for my questions even after they have moved on to another job. These guys are very deserving of five stars. Also, I want to give a shout out to Anthony who did our inspection/estimate. He was very thorough and patient and made everything understandable. Another five-star guy!"

"It is a 60 year old house, and is settling.  The middle of the house had a raised area.  We were trying to get the house ready for sale, and the high area in the middle was worrying people. The realtor feared that it would be impossible to get a loan in today's climate with the raised area down the center of the house.  She had a guy who does piers look at it, and he recommended $11K worth of piers.  We called a structural engineer, and he came out and looked at the house and made recommendations.  The engineer indicated that the structure above (rafters were sound, in good condition)  and below was sound (joists were strong and sound), and posed no danger to anyone. He stated that the cracks in the house were a normal part of settling over time, and were cosmetic.  He provided a report of things which would remedy the situation and estimated the repairs under $3k.  I called Powerlift, and they came out and looked at the house. They suggested $14K worth of piers around the exterior of the house, which they would discount to $11K. They said that this would probably lead to very spongy floors (?!?! the floors aren't spongy now) They also priced the engineer's recommendation, and priced that job at $3K+. They said they would DO it, if I could sleep nights. They also warned that now that they had been to the house, I had to disclose that they had been there, and was somehow bound by what they had suggested.  They would have to tell potential buyers what they recommended and that we didn't do what they said (over what the engineer suggested?).  The underlying threat offended me. I had a structural engineer's report, and they sell piers.  I looked elsewhere for repairs.  I found a foundation repair company who found the actual cause of the raised area.  About 35 years ago, in an effort to stop the cracks in the sheet rock, my dad had jacked up the center stem wall and put a board on it.  When the exterior settled, this elevated stem wall wall didn't, so it caused a hump in the floor.  The foundation repair guy jacked up the wall over the stem wall and took out the board. We had piers  installed parallel to the stem wall down the middle just to help support the house, and had it all done for less than $2k.  Naturally, there were cracks resulting from lowering the wall back down, and once patched, all is well.  Had Permalift worked their magic, we'd still be battling problems.  Mostly I didn't like being threatened."

The cost to install a drain pipe is $600 on average, but the total can range between $150 and $2,000. Some cost factors that influence your project price include the type of drain, the area’s accessibility, the proximity of existing drain lines, and whether you’re installing a new drain or replacing an old one. Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

We highly recommend leaving the work of replacing drain pipes to a professional plumber. Drain pipes are a key part of your plumbing system, and making mistakes during the installation or even using the wrong size pipes for your specific fixture can lead to an elevated risk of leaks and clogs. Additionally, drain pipes prevent harmful sewer gas from entering your home, so hiring a professional plumber is essential to keeping the risk of leaks and clogs low and avoid reducing your indoor air quality.

The average cost to unclog a drain is around $200, with prices ranging between $110 and $800, depending on the type of drain and the extent of the clog. Hiring a professional to snake the toilet or sink will usually cost between $110 and $275, a bathtub or shower typically costs around $225, and a main line clog can cost between $100 and $800 based on the severity of the clog and how far beyond the access point the clog sits. Since the labor involved varies, most plumbers will charge an hourly rate for drain cleaning.

The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350
