Customers say: Quick response

"Grand Handyman is truly amazing. I reached out for one job with a dryer vent, and while he was here he ended up doing two more! Fixed a leaking toilet base and a broken fence gate. He handled every job with ease and I wish I could give him ten stars! He went above and beyond!"

"The designers were very nice.  However, they only recommended/carried a litmit number of suppliers - few of which were in Indy.  The suppliers they carreid were also very expensive.  Even though I sent pictures, I found that I needed a designer that could come to the house and help find local suppliers for paints and material."

"We hired Mike and Amanda to custom-design and build a large built-in bookcase unit that would form the centerpiece of a "library" in our new home. They did such an incredible job that we hired them multiple additional times for custom woodwork: a fireplace facing, a live edge mantel, a butcher block top for our kitchen island, a wall-hung "post office", and a box to hold all our TV-related electronics. Anything you can dream of, they can do. Mike is a true craftsman who takes such pride in his work and makes sure every detail is perfect. Amanda is very creative and initiated a number of fun touches that we never would have thought of ourselves. They are highly reliable and conscientious and they give you a fair quote and stick to it. As well, they are just lovely people and were fun to work with!"

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

To safeguard your furniture and upholstered items, it's best to use plastic wrap or specially-made plastic sofa covers. However, you should avoid wrapping wooden furniture in plastic if you plan on storing it, as plastic can trap moisture and warp the wood, plus it may damage certain finishes. In either case, old blankets or moving blankets make excellent alternatives. For protecting delicate glass table tops and mirrors, bubble wrap is always a reliable choice.

If your couch is damaged, you are not out of options. You might try fixing it on your own, bring in a furniture repair specialist, or opt to get rid of it responsibly. Depending on its condition, you could donate, sell, recycle, or drop it off at a local scrap facility.

Ongoing maintenance of your leather furniture is the only way to prevent it from peeling and cracking. Real leather will peel and crack as it dries out. Leather conditioners are a great way to protect your leather furniture from drying out, and you’ll need to apply it about twice each year. It’s also a good idea to keep abrasive materials away from your leather to prevent cracking and peeling, including belt buckles, shoes, and multi-surface cleaners, especially those that contain alcohol.

The average cost to reupholster a piece of furniture is around $720, with most projects falling in the $380 to $1,150 range. The final price can vary significantly based on several factors. These include the size and complexity of the furniture, the cost of the new fabric (which typically ranges from $50 to $70 per yard), and hourly labor rates (often $40 to $100 per hour). Additional factors that influence the price are the piece's current condition, its age, whether it needs other repairs, the number of pieces being reupholstered, and your geographic location.

Consider durability, color, texture, room use, and personal style when selecting fabric. Fabrics like linen, cotton, or microfiber offer versatility and strength.
