"LeafFilter doesn't clean gutters, they sell and install their LeafFilter Gutter products and only clean the gutters if you buy their product. I can't even begin to afford their product so I wasn't able to get my gutter cleaned by them."

"I compared alarm services and was initially skeptical of a service that didn't include a wired system.   After reading the website, it sounded too good to be true!  But I liked the idea of not having to have my whole house wired as this is the day of clean, unwired technology!  Also I liked the option to be able to turn on or off my system from anywhere in the world.  If I'm in Thailand, I can see if my house sitter has a window open!
So I went for it.  The phone team explain everything clearly and answered all of my questions.  I got the box of materials in a few days.  It had a very "dumbed down" and short but adequately thorough set of instruction booklets.  There was a central control panel that I set on a counter but could have easily installed on the wall.  THen, there were about 10 sets of door and window sensors with sticky tape on their backs.  they were super easy to attach to windows and doors.  After a call with the center to activate, voila!  My control panel showed the sensors.  Later I keyed in the names of the rooms and signed up for the alarm.com app on my phone.  It's so cool and it really works. And the monthly price is right for me too.  Less than some of the big companies.
One other function I really like about the system is that if I mistakenly open a door or window before putting in the code, is that the machine says that the call to the system was cancelled right after I do put my code in.     With other systems I had to call the company and sometimes even the police station, to be sure I cancelled a real alarm.
The system is fun; you can actually alarm anything you want: a drawer, a diary, anything where you can put the two sensors across from each other!

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

As with patios, there are many types of deck choices to choose from to add personalization to your home. Some common deck options include:

  • Attached decks are anchored to the home and include simple ground-level options or multi-level structures with stairways and separate landings.

  • Detached island decks are not attached to the home; they’re a freestanding structure in the yard.

  • Wraparound decks connect the back of the house with at least one other side and often are built with railings for safety.

  • Multi-level decks connect your deck through varying levels of elevation, featuring landings that are attached to stairs.

Deck skirting shouldn’t touch the ground, especially if you have a wood deck, which is vulnerable to moisture. Ideally, you should leave at least 3/4 of an inch of space between the deck skirting and the ground for more ventilation. Pros also recommend that you incorporate about 1 square foot of space for ventilation for the underside of the deck to every 150 square feet of decking. Proper ventilation prevents mold growth and rot that can damage your deck.

Liquid rubber is great for waterproofing, but it can damage your deck if it’s not applied correctly. First, it can trap moisture in the wood if the deck isn’t completely dry before application.  Second, applying it too thickly can create a heavy, rubbery surface layer that peels and cracks under fluctuating temperatures. For the best results, ensure the wood is completely dry before application, and apply the liquid rubber in thin, even coats. A quick inspection every now and then will help you catch any issues early, keeping your deck protected and looking its best.

What goes under your floating deck depends on your preferences. Some homeowners put landscaping fabric underneath their decks to prevent weeds from popping up through the boards. Others choose to build a floating deck over grass or gravel. However, it’s best not to set your deck directly on the ground. Instead, set your deck on blocks to keep it elevated enough to prevent moisture from rotting the wood.

Rot loves moisture, so deck rot typically impacts the parts of a board that stay wet. This includes the underside of boards, in addition to support posts and joists. However, any part of a board can rot, given the right conditions.
