"The service provider arrived 40 mins late (9:40 am) and began to throw a football in my front lawn with his helper. I had my front door open and neither person came to the door. I had to go outside to greet them so they would know I knew they were at my house. The service provider and helper began removing carpet from my living room/dinning room area. After less than 2 hours at 11:20 am, I felt the temperature in the house change. The service provider and his helper then left unannounced for a break. I noticed my thermostat had be turned down 6 degrees from 74 to 68 without communication or my permission. The two guys returned about 45 minutes later. A third man showed up and began removing carpet from the upstairs hallway area. I noticed they had began laying the new LVP before they left. When they returned, I asked the service provider why there was a gap between the LVP and the wall trim. He said he assumed I was putting quarter round trim to cover the gap. I said this wasn't what we had discussed on the phone when discussing the project. He apologized and offered to find a caulk that would match. I declined. I also asked about the transition pieces for each other areas. The provider told me he would pay for the living room strip closest to my front door. Around 2 hours after they returned the first time the 3 men left again. They were gone for over an hour for what I presume was lunch. Later, I found taco tortillas thrown in my front yard. The LVP floor installation (in living room/dining room) continued while I remained upstairs with my children. At around 5 pm the provider communicated the three of them needed to leave again because he did not have the correct staples for installing the carpet on the stairs or upper hallway. They were gone for over an hour and when they returned the passenger in the front seat was sleeping and the service provider was just sitting his truck. My husband went out to greet them and they quickly came out of the vehicle to talk. The service provider communicated that he went to 3 stores and could not find the correct staples. At that point it was well after 6pm. Since the work could not continue, they service provider had to leave. They were paid $600 out of the 1,000 agreed upon price with the promise of returning on Monday Oct 29. They left dangerous tack strips exposed on every stair tread. My children and I had to carefully go up and down the stairs all weekend with fear of getting stabbed in our feet. The service provider returned Monday morning to finish the carpet installation. He brought a different person with him that I hadn't seen on Saturday to nail in the quarter round in the living/dining room area. I had to personally acquire and purchase the quarter round because the service provider failed to honor our original agreement of removing the base trim. I also kept noticing little things with the carpet that didn't look right. I inquired about why the carpet didn't come as far in my bedroom door as the other 2 bedroom doors. The provider admitted he measured incorrectly and offered to put a rubber transition strip on the door. I didn't like that idea so I said just tuck the carpet under and I guess it'll just be short then. It exposed the wood floor that wasn't stained (that the previous carpet had covered). He then cut the stair carpet incorrectly as well and told me he had to add 1 inch pieces on the side of each stair tread. My instincts kept telling me this wasn't right. I had to go to work so my husband paid the service provider the other $400 that was owed. When I returned home from work that evening my children informed me that the bathroom door upstairs could not close. The service provider needed wood from my garage to put under the carpet by the bathroom door. He brought the carpet nearly into the bathroom. Every closet in my upstairs area had raw edges where the carpet ended. I later realized the service provider never removed any of my baseboard air vents and cut the LVP floor around them. There is also a chip in the corner of one of the LVP boards in the middle of the floor and a different board has a piece sticking up. I am beyond disappointed with this work. I have not contacted the service provider about fixing it because at this point I feel he is not knowledgeable enough. If he was, it would have been done correctly the first time. Does this service provider carry insurance for the work that he is doing in people's homes??? I have called and scheduled 2 separate contractors from other companies to assess the damage and what it will cost for me to remove the carpet and reinstall as well as fix the damaged LVP."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.

Deciding between using a shower pan or tile will likely come down to the shower’s design. You can learn how to install a shower pan liner, but it has a standard look similar to most other showers, though there is some flexibility for material and color choices. Tile, on the other hand, can be customized and is set directly into the shower base. However, a shower tile floor is more difficult to install than a shower pan.

Professionals can enhance bathroom aesthetics by recommending and implementing design elements such as modern fixtures, high-quality tiles, and efficient layouts. They ensure cohesive style, compliment functionality, and an enhanced visual appeal in the space.

Ceramic tile adheres best with premixed adhesive or mortar. If you’re installing the tile in an area with moisture, such as a bathroom or kitchen, opt for waterproof adhesive, and if you choose mortar, make sure it’s thick because that is the easiest to work with and ensures the tiles will sit flat.

The process takes two to four days, depending on the size of the area and your experience level. The first day involves assessing and prepping the existing tile, while the second day is for laying the new tile. This may take longer in complex areas. After letting the adhesive dry for 24 hours, grouting and sealing can be completed on day three. For larger projects or intricate tile patterns, expect the timeline to stretch a bit longer. Also, proper drying time between steps is essential for long-lasting results, which extends the project’s time.
