"30 minutes before my set appointment I was called and notified that they had an emergency at the job prior to me and they wouldn't me out until the following Monday at 9am first thing. My appointment was on Thurs 3pm-6pm. Needless to say the serviceman came out at 1130am. Turned out my grandson overloaded a circuit and it kept tripping the breaker. So needless to say work was not needed at this time. Unsure if they would be my first choice for a more serious job."

He spoke and dressed very professionally and didn't try to upcharge me for services that were unneeded. I feel like he is someone who I can trust and spent his time well working the entire time he was here. He seemed very knowledgeable about the issue and how to tackle it. I'm worried about other companies who just try to sell a new unit rather than fixing them. I'm glad to say that he didn't try to sell a new unit but to repair the one we had. He spoke with us about the many options that we could have done so we could decide ourselves how we wanted to proceed. Definitely a must hire, and top of my recommendations list. The best thing about hiring him was to see someone of the younger generation getting into the trade skills. I'm glad to have him and hope he is around to be my long-term repairman. Sizing a generator is a careful process that requires calculating the electrical load of your entire house. You have to take into account every device you want to use and their wattage requirements, plus the wattage needed to start them, and look for a generator that can safely run all that at around 80% capacity.

In more practical terms, a small home can run on a 10,000-watt generator (and if you only want to power a few key appliances, much less than that). A mid-sized home may need something between 15,000 and 22,000 watts. Larger homes require 25,000 watts or more. 

In many cases, you’ll need a permit or basic inspection to install one of these large generators. Since they include significant alterations to your home electrical system and many produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require jumping through a few hoops for general safety purposes. You can expect a diesel generator to last for up to 30,000 hours of use, which works out to 20 to 25 years with the proper maintenance, of course. That depends on how much you use it, so a diesel generator used for emergencies a couple of times a year will last a lot longer than a generator that takes over for a faulty electrical grid every month for a day or two. 

If you have a transfer switch properly installed, the generator and main electrical power cannot feed the system at the same time.
