"On Thursday, 09/14/17, the company paved my 82' driveway from the garage to the street. The owner promised, as part of the job, to properly grade it. The job was completed, but two days later on Saturday, 09/16/17 I discovered that the asphalt paving was not properly graded to allow water from rain fall or snow melt to flow away from the garage's entrance toward the street. This grade's angle begins at a distance of 15' to 20' from the entrance of my garage. I contacted Joshua Wells, the owner on Saturday, 09/16/17 to advise him of the problem - even submitting a homemade video via text showing him that water poured from a bucket on this grade flows into the garage. He said he would see what he could do about it and told me not to worry. I contacted him again on Sunday, 09/17/17 and he said he would look at it the first chance and attend to the matter by the end the week. It rained hard the next day, Monday, 09/18/17 and again on Tuesday, 09/19/17. Water flowed in a steady stream into the garage each time. He called me back a day or so later and said he would be by to install a drain at the driveway near the entrance of garage to cause water to flow away from the garage. However, he advised a job came up that took him out of town and he had other commitments this week, but promised to to install the drain by Friday 09/29/17 - probably in the afternoon. I responded that that would be fine. When the drain is installed that should resolve the flooding issue. Will update at that time."

"It was beautifully done. They agreed to come to our house at 11AM but they arrived at 8:30 AM. They are always early. They did a lot of work within the budget, and they finished on time. They left the lawn better than when they started, every day. It was immaculate. They were very thorough and detail oriented. They explained everything step by step. We never had to watch over them. They manage themselves and their crew. We didn't have to think about any detail. Everyone who passes our home gives a complement. We had them scheduled for the fall clean up as well. He came on weekends, and he took the time even when he is fully booked. We got the estimate within the next day while the turnaround time for others is 3-4 weeks. They were professional and the difference between them and other companies is that others are in it for the money. It was done on the same time frame that they had told us. And the result was as expected. He had incredible suggestions on how to take it to the next level. He is very friendly, personable, very kind and pleasant to be around. They were very good to their client. And another thing about them is that they put their heart into their work, and it shows. They were really concerned about customer satisfaction, and they would always ask us what we think about every step that they are taking on the project. It was a superior experience."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

To ensure you hire a reliable and experienced paving company, you should start by finding companies in your area that have at least five to ten years of experience working in your neighborhood. Next, rule out companies with poor reviews online or a series of complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau. Since driveways affect your curb appeal, you should also ask each company for references and pictures of recent work to make sure the work the company does is professional and high quality. Finally, check that the company is licensed and insured.

While paving a driveway is possible to do as a DIY project, we don’t recommend it. Hiring a driveway professional to pave it will ensure that your driveway looks neat and clean and lasts for years to come, and it will also prevent a weak driveway and, potentially, damage to your foundation. Paving a driveway requires heavy machinery, and while you can rent the equipment needed, operating it close to your garage slab or around your home’s foundation can crack it and lead to structural issues.

The dimensions of a driveway apron vary based on local building codes, the width of your driveway, and the distance between the driveway and the road. On average, aprons range from 12 to 24 feet wide and 8 to 18 feet long. Typically, the end of the apron connected to the driveway matches its width—such as 10 to 12 feet for a single-car driveway—while the end at the street flares out to allow cars to turn in and out more easily. In some areas, you may not be responsible for the portion of the apron that extends beyond the sidewalk, but this depends on local laws.

A pallet of pavers will cost about $300 to $700 per pallet. Each pallet covers about 56 square feet. The specific price you pay per pallet of pavers will depend on a few factors, including the type of paver you’re buying, the size and shape of the pavers, and how many pavers you need. In some cases, you’ll spend less per pallet if you’re buying in bulk for very large paver patios.

Pavers will crack in a fire pit if they are made of the wrong materials. Be sure to use kiln-fired brick paver stones when building your backyard fire pit. You can also purchase a fire pit project kit, which will sometimes come with fire-safe pavers, to help you avoid the guessing game of buying pavers separately.
