"Victors came out to do an inspection on my 16 old roof and found lots of issues I wasn't aware of. The salesman showed me photos AND videos of the issues, which made me feel at ease knowing they weren't just trying to get my money. In under 1 week, the crew was there replacing my roof and I couldn't be happier with it! Everyone I came in contact was very professional, helpful and nice, from beginning to end. Though this was a little more than I anticipated spending on a new roof, I feel like it was totally worth it, knowing that I got good quality materials and workmanship, not to mention the warranty! I would definitely recommend Victors to anyone looking for a new roof 10/10"

"Jesse gave us quotes for metal roofs for two of our rental houses, and our personal home. He was very professional, and after looking at more than eight other contractors we chose to go with Jesse, and Schwartz Construction. We are so HAPPY that we chose them to do the work. They did a GREAT job. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. They were VERY conscientious in making sure they cleaned everything up when done, and did not make a mess on any of the job sites. Will never use anyone other than Schwartz Construction for any roofing, or any other construction projects that they would be willing to do. Their prices were also great compared to the other contractors that we talked to. They did such great work that they ended up putting a new roof on our daughters house also."

"Erie Homes was great. Ty and Chris shared the information about roofs in a clear and precise way. I love the high quality of the roofing materials and the standards they hold their workers to when placing the roof. Mike called me each step of the way, so I was prepared when the roofing supplies showed up. I even got calls after the beautiful roof was done. Amazing job!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

The terms “roof shingles” and “roof tiles” are sometimes used interchangeably, but the term “shingles” most often refers to asphalt, rubber, metal, or slate shingles, and the term “tiles” normally means they’re made from clay or concrete. In all cases, shingles are small, rectangular components that a roofer layers in an overlapping pattern to protect the structure underneath from the elements.

While you don’t have to let roofers inside your home, it is proper etiquette to offer the use of your restrooms. And if it’s a hot day, it’s polite to invite the roofers into your house to cool off and have a chilled drink.

You can technically install a metal roof over asphalt shingles, but it isn’t a good idea. This is because you’re essentially creating a moisture barrier under the metal, which can easily—and often does—lead to significant mold damage. Removing an asphalt roof isn’t terribly expensive, and some roofing companies might cut you a serious labor and disposal discount if you add it to a new install.

A standard roof can hold a live load of about 20 pounds per square foot. However, gable roofs often have steeper-than-average slopes, so calculating their weight capacity can be challenging. If the slope of your gable roof is greater than 4:12, the live load needs to be decreased to allow for a larger dead load. Ask your roofer exactly how much weight your roof can support.

If your roof is nearing the 20-year mark in age, you probably should start worrying about the roof’s longevity. If you don’t know the age, it may be time to figure out who installed your roof, so you can estimate the age accurately. You then can make plans to pay for the upcoming roof replacement. You also can learn how to inspect a roof yourself to look for signs of damage that may indicate a need for a replacement.
