"We were a customer for over ten years, and noticed in the last year that our lawn was not doing very well. One day my neighbor, who also is a Trugreen customer, noticed the Tech stopped in front of our house, put a flag in each of our yards, but did not apply treatment and drove off. He caught them doing this twice and called Trugreen, and he advised me to do the same. They apologized and were to credit us for the two payments. we received one credit, but they kept billing us for the second. With multible phone calls, we could not get it rectified, so we canceled them, and we are now looking for a new provider thru Angie's list."

Lawn Fertilization and Treatment questions, answered by experts

Putting too much lime on your lawn can change the soil's pH level from acidic to alkaline. While grass doesn't do well in acidic soils, an alkaline situation can be just as detrimental to its health. Alkaline soil blocks the grass's ability to absorb vital nutrients necessary for survival. If you apply too much lime, you can reverse the effects over a relatively short time by applying commercially available products designed for the purpose or by adding compost to the soil.

Buffalo grass does not turn green as early in the spring as some other grasses. If you have a heavily shaded yard, buffalo grass may not receive enough sunlight to thrive. It’s not as dense as some other grass varieties, so it may not feel as comfortable on bare feet.

First, you should figure out whether you have dormant or dead grass. Dead grass won’t come back, so you’ll have to reseed if you’re hoping for a lush lawn. However, grass can go dormant if it hasn’t received enough water or if temperatures are too cold. If it’s still decently warm outside, you can revive dormant grass by watering it. But if it’s mid-January in New England, for example, you’ll need to wait until the weather warms up again. If you want to keep grass green in winter, consider a grass like Kentucky bluegrass, which maintains its color year-round.

DIY solutions often lack precise formulation and distribution, potentially leading to lawn damage. Professional treatments optimize results with targeted applications.

It’s not required, but it is helpful if your goal is to produce new growth. Any fertilization should occur after the lawn is aerated and before the compost is applied. If you also plan to spread seed, you’ll want to do so after the fertilizer is applied and once the ground is damp, but not wet.
