"I called Alarm Protection Group AFTER my office was burglarized. Now I feel SAFE. William is great to work with. He's neat and tidy, prompt, presentable - not a butt-crack type of guy, and he doesn't leave a mess in his wake. He's also knowledgeable about the equipment and only uses high-quality products."

"Walter and Glen at Protect Your Home Group with ADT are the best people to talk to in terms of security alarm. Being a locksmith myself I know how important it is to deal with the right people. I referred a lot of customers to them and so far they are happy with their service. I myself got one for my house. Thank you for a consistent service and great deal."

"Equipment is Self-Installation, which is fine, but the equipment is not very good quality and requiring constant care. Keypad/interface with the main system is not intuitive at all.

"The one that gave me the best price, worked with me to get my business, had the most knowledge about the system, had the most customer service and the one I picked was 1st Security, LLC, 1311 Londontown Blvd Ste 120-111, Sykesville, MD 21784-6436, Phone: (410) 489-2465. It is a small family owned company that is a distributor for Guardian Alarm. They installed my system on Friday, Apruil 29th and it went great. The installer was also very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. He did not leave until he was sure I knew how to use my system. I would recommend this company to anyone in the area looking for an alarm company. I was highly impressed with this company."

"Mike and Martine did a great job! Recommend them to anyone needing exception moving needs done. They called and came early. They were very courteous and respectful. They asked if we needed any other assistance while they were there. They worked quickly and efficiently. Very reasonable pricing. Great job!"

"Choice responded quickly but the insurance plan does not pay for all doors to be re-keyed unless you have very few locks. The number of locks covered by the insurance is determined by keyholes, not doors! (Read your policy!) You will likely have to shell out some money to have this essential new-home service if you have more than four keyholes. The locksmith they called was EXCELLENT and made all our locks completely functional. We will happily hire the locksmith again (R.L Locksmith LLC). We paid $201.81 (plus another $50 for some door re-alignment not included in the re-keying benefit) and Choice paid $100 for the job."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Find a vetted and trusted locksmith to work on your home so you can feel comfortable and safe. Hire a professional with these qualifications:

  • Search a verified directory of locksmiths near you, like those on Angi.

  • Check for an Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) logo on their website or company logo.

  • Read company reviews. You can also check their social media pages.

  • Ask for a pro’s credentials, insurance, licensure, and customer testimonials.

  • Check if the locksmith is knowledgeable about various topics, from decorative locks to the newest technologies on the market.

The cost to hire a locksmith varies depending on the service you need. Consult your locksmith about the price of your requested services before hiring for your repair or installation. Some of the most common types of locksmith services include:

  • Installing deadbolts: $40–$75

  • Rekeying: $80–$160

  • Unlocking your house: $65–$180

  • Changing locks: $50–$200

  • Installing electronic locks: $50–$500

  • Installing smart locks: $200–$800

  • Keyless locks: $50–$300

It depends on what type of keyless entry it is and if the locksmith has the proper tools to remove a keypad entry lock since some are more advanced than others. However, locksmiths can typically work around keyless entries to vehicles, so it depends on what type of keyless entry system needs opening.

When you take a key to a hardware store or a locksmith for copying, you can expect the key-cutting process to take as little as 30 seconds. The key copier will review your current key to decide on the correct blank. Then, your original key and the blank are inserted into a key duplication machine to cut an exact key copy. When it’s all said and done, you can have a new key in your hand in just a couple of minutes.

Typically, it can take around 15 minutes to rekey a lock. The time depends on the type of lock and how skilled you are at rekeying. The first time you rekey a lock, it may take a little longer. Once you get the hang of the process, it will move along much more quickly.
