"George came out this morning to give us an estimate on removal of a large tree (and smaller tree nearby) which came down in a storm and also removal of a lot of honeysuckle in our wooded lot. His price estimates on the 2 projects were very reasonable and he said that he could do the tree removal today. He also recommended that we wait until Spring for the honeysuckle removal so that it would turn green and we wouldn't run the risk of taking out too much and losing privacy. We felt that this was a great idea and appreciated his advice. George and his crew did a great job with the tree removal and we also appreciated how careful they were in transporting the logs across our lawn to avoid any damage. We will definitely have George and his crew back in the Spring to remove the honeysuckle and will be contacting him for all of our future tree work."

"We had a tree fall and land against the fence. I called Hackney Tree Service and they went out, looked at it without me being there, and gave me a really good bid for the tree removal and grinding out the stump. They came out, did a great job, and cleaned everything up. I am very pleased with the job they did. Thank you Caleb and the guys!"

"Johnny did an amazing job on our trees. One big tree split and had come down during a storm. He finished cutting it down and chopped it up so we could use as firewood. The other tree was old and dying. I didn’t want to lose it so he cut out the dead branches and saved the tree for a while longer. He knew what he was doing and how to do it! He probably saved my husband a trip to the hospital!"

"Very prompt response. The price seemed fair and the work was completed very timely. The clean-up could have been a little bit better-there we’re a lot of sticks left all over the yard. Overall good!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

It may not be worth it to rake every leaf in your yard, but it’s necessary to remove the majority of leaves to prevent them from smothering grass growth on your lawn. However, raking leaves isn’t your only option for leaf removal. You can remove leaves easily with a leaf blower or compost or mulch them with your lawn mower to repurpose them to help grow your garden or yard.

Carefully pruning small roots no thicker than three inches in diameter won’t harm the tree. However, cutting larger roots may impact the tree's stability and nutrient absorption. It's advisable to consult an arborist or tree care professional to evaluate the root's size, the tree's health, and the potential impact of cutting. Proper tree pruning techniques and timing can minimize damage, but larger root removal may necessitate expert guidance to avoid compromising the tree's overall health and stability.

If a tree stump is removed properly, the chances of a tree growing back are low. However, if a tree has a robust root system, roots can sometimes sprout and someday grow into a tree. The chance of regrowth will depend on several factors such as the type of tree, soil quality, and strength of the root system. In general, it is not recommended to plant a tree where a stump was removed.

The best time to cut down a tree is during its dormant season, typically in winter or early spring, after all the leaves have fallen. Removing a tree during this period is advantageous for several reasons. Frozen ground helps secure the tree stump, protects the surrounding landscape from damage, and reduces the risk of the tree falling in an unintended direction. With the leaves gone, there is less risk of the tree's foliage getting tangled with other trees. Additionally, since this is often a slower season for tree services, you may be able to hire a professional at a lower rate. This dormant period is also the best time for tree trimming.

For safety reasons, leaning trees are best removed by a professional, as they may often tear away from the hinge, causing you to lose control over where the tree falls. If you choose to cut down a tree leaning slightly, avoid cutting off root protrusions before you start. Make your hinge a little longer than usual by cutting it deeper (up to 30% of the diameter) and applying a wedge into the felling cut on the side the tree is leaning. Stand away from the direction the tree leans while making your felling cut.
