Customers say: True professional

"From the first estimate until the job was completed and cleaned up, they did everything I requested and exceeded my expectations on quality and value. They used high quality paint and painted all of my gutters, up to 3 stories high. When they found something needed additional work, they discussed with me and they did as I requested. I would definitely hire them again. They are friendly, professional and thorough."

"I highly recommend GM Remodeling! They were professional from start to finish, responded quickly, and were very reasonably priced. The quality of their work was excellent, and everything turned out great. It’s not always easy to find someone who is responsive, reliable, does excellent work, and charges a fair price, but GM Remodeling checked all the boxes. I will definitely use them again for future projects!"

Small jobs welcome

"Jim is trustworthy, ethical, careful, and does high-quality work. He refinished existing cabinets for me, added slow-close hinges, and switched pull-out shelves for a trash can unit. Very satisfied."

"Wonderfully! Dennis's team did a fabulous job and painted everything beautifully. They are polite, fast, friendly and clean up the mess - you can't even tell they were there painting. They are also very contentious about the work being done and won't just leave things just "OK" - my bedroom needed 3 coats instead of 2 and Pat didn't just leave it the way it was, she wanted me to be happy (no extra charge). This is the second time I've used Quality Counts and they are going to come back to paint my kitchen/family room/hallway/stairs and laundry room. I highly recommend them - Dora and Dennis are very accommodating for scheduling as well."

Wallpaper Removal FAQs, answered by experts

You may end up with extra wallpaper once your project is finished. Hang on to that wallpaper, as you may need to use it to patch up areas that get damaged later on. If you have a lot of excess wallpaper, try getting creative with it. You can use it to line the inside of a cabinet or drawers, for example.

To remove adhesive-backed wallpaper, you’ll need to soften the adhesive before you try peeling the wallpaper off the walls. You may wonder whether peel-and-stick wallpaper damages walls. It can depend on the removal method. Make sure to be patient and consider using a steamer, hair dryer, or adhesive remover to carefully take down adhesive-backed wallpaper.

In most cases, it is not recommended to wallpaper over existing wallpaper, as the success depends on the type of paper already on the wall. While you might be able to cover non-coated wallpaper, you should never apply new wallpaper over a vinyl-coated one, which is more common. Doing so can lead to poor adhesion, resulting in bubbles, imperfections, and peeling. It can also trap moisture, potentially causing hazardous mold growth between the layers.

Even if the existing wallpaper is suitable, experts recommend applying only one new layer. Adding multiple layers (more than two total) can cause significant adhesion problems, leading to warping and bubbling. For the best results, the recommended approach is to remove the old wallpaper and all paste residue before hanging the new paper. If you are unsure about your wallpaper type, consider consulting a professional.

Once again, contact with moisture is the culprit here, though water-resistant varieties of wallpaper are less likely to become wet and develop mold. Using a high-quality exhaust fan or dehumidifier and leaving the doors or windows cracked after bathing will keep this issue at bay.

The simple nature of peel and stick wallpaper means it should come off much more easily than traditional wallpaper that is glued to your walls. You’ll still want to work slowly and carefully to avoid tearing it, but most peel and stick wallpaper should come off without a chemical agent to loosen it.
