"Tony was hired to paint my garage. He also volunteered to power wash the driveway & garage floor. He suggested putting in a garage floor wall trim which looked very nice. We had an unexpected problem with the garage door opener not working, but Tony did an excellent job finding a solution and corrected the problem. It was only fitting to paid him extra money above & beyond the quoted work order because his team of workers worked on the weekend to complete the job. They were a very friendly bunch of workers who volunteered to paint the garage entry door into the house with trim and the garage brick walls a beautiful color. They are the BEST!"

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

You can take a few steps to prolong the life of your holiday lights. Make sure to replace burnt-out bulbs as quickly as possible to avoid overloading the rest of the circuit and knocking out more lights. Before packing them up each year, plug each strand into the wall to confirm everything is still working. Wrap the lights carefully back into their original packaging or something similar—winding a strand tightly together or leaving it to hang loose in a storage bin can lead to frayed or damaged wiring.

Inspect for burnt-out bulbs, secure connections, and protect from water exposure to maintain functionality.

Decorators often prefer artificial Christmas trees. They’re easier to handle and shape, and decorators don’t have to worry about bugs or allergies. It’s also an ideal choice because artificial trees keep up appearances without owners needing to schedule watering.

However, always confirm that decorators are ready to unbox and set up the artificial tree. If they don’t include tree set-up in their services, you may need to hire a general handyperson for that task.

Technically, you can use duct tape to hang Christmas lights, but it’s not the best bet. Duct tape or other types of tape retain moisture, which isn’t ideal when near an electrical wire. Plus, it can peel off due to the elements. Duct tape is also a very unattractive option, visually speaking. Instead, opt for roof clips for Christmas lights, which are affordable and easy to use.

Aside from a professional light installation company, there are a few other pros who may be able to help you hang Christmas lights. Along with specialty holiday decorators, a handyperson near you can also hang Christmas lights (and can fix that pesky drippy sink while they’re at it). Either way, not all of these pros will offer the service, so be sure to call ahead and get multiple quotes before you hire.
