The increased cost of Spray Foam Insulation pays for itself in 5 - 7 years on average in your heating and cooling cost. Your home will be airtight once completed which can not be accomplished with standard fiberglass insulation. Be sure to advise your HVAC contractor if spray foam was used on your new build construction as you can many times get a smaller central AC and heating unit because of the airtight home. Installed a boat lift as part of the project, it was not installed to spec and dropped our boat. The seawall steps have washed out from rain. Left trash, building scraps all over the work site."

Whether metal fence posts need concrete depends on the environment and the ground they're placed on. For thick earth and areas without significant weather or high wind, you can get by without concrete, but in areas with weak dirt and strong seasonal weather, it's a good idea to install a concrete base on each individual post. This increases the cost but not as much as replacing or reinstalling the fence would.

The actual moisture level that is acceptable for your concrete floor depends on what primer or flooring material you plan to install above it. For this reason, you should check the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact details.

Generally, the moisture levels should be 3.5% to 4.5%, although it does vary. Some products can handle higher levels of moisture, so you should always test your concrete before purchasing your flooring materials.

You should put gravel that is 3/4 to 1 inch under a concrete slab. However, depending on the project, local building codes may dictate the proper gravel size and shape. Some concrete slabs that do not hold significant weight may have a subbase of sand. Also, keep in mind that the subbase you choose will affect the cost of your concrete patio, walkway, or driveway.

It is not advisable to pour concrete directly on dirt. Even compacted soil—known as a subgrade—is not strong enough to maintain the form of concrete. You can, however, pour concrete over concrete as long as the overlay has proper bonding agents and the slab below is clear of damage.

A 4-inch-thick concrete slab can support around 4,000 pounds per square foot if a contractor reinforces the slab with rebar, while that same slab without reinforcements will support closer to 1,000 pounds. For the purposes of a patio, 4 inches in thickness without reinforcement should suffice unless you’re installing heavy kitchen equipment or a hot tub on it. In those cases, reinforcing your slab and sticking with 4 inches of thickness should provide plenty of strength.
