This feature makes it challenging and time-consuming to remove most wallpaper. There are tools to speed up the process, like steamers, but, unfortunately, it’s easy to permanently damage your walls when using them. In most cases, it’s best to hire a professional wallpaper remover to get the job done quickly and without damaging your home.

You can paint over wallpaper, but it’s not usually recommended, especially if the wallpaper underneath is textured or dirty. If you do decide to paint your wallpaper, make sure it’s in good condition and clean it very well. Make sure all corners and edges of wallpaper are glued down before you paint, as well.

Most experts would not recommend hanging wallpaper over existing wallpaper more than twice. Even if the walls are in good condition and primed well, that third layer of wallpaper could cause problems with adhesion. Unless you like bubbling paint and peeling wallpaper as an interior design choice, it’s better to remove at least one existing layer before adding any more to a wall.
