"I had a great experience from start to finish with Joe. He responded to my project request within an hour of posting it. Unlike some of the other providers, Joe had availability to start my project in a matter of days. He was super flexible when we had a Covid diagnosis in the house—easily changed our installation date for the project. He showed up right on time the day of the project. He wore a mask the whole time (which I did not ask him to do) but I really appreciated that he did so without needing to be asked. In terms of the actual project, he installed a ceiling fan in our bedroom. There was no existing fan or light, so he had to route electric and brace the fan from the attic. He did an awesome job! Start to finish was about 6 hours. When he finished, he showed me the final results and then he vacuumed up and left the place spotless. We are incredibly happy with the outcome! His rates were reasonably priced and I will definitely be using his services again. Thanks Joe!"

"This bathroom renovation is the third time we have used Gary for various home projects. He and his two workmen were very friendly, polite and knowledgable in their work. I believe that the fact we used him three times speaks highly of them. I consider their work to be top notch. I definately would use them again should the need arise."

"Nathan was able to turn our tiny, odd shaped Jack and Jill bathroom into two beautiful bathrooms even though other contractors had told us that it couldnâ t be done without a major cost. He came in well within our budget and provided quality work. He worked with us on the design, and now both bathrooms are beautiful and feel larger than expected while working within the original footprint. Heâ s a hard, honest contractor with an incredible talent. I have already referred him to a couple of friends who are also very happy with their new rooms."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

When choosing tiles for a shower floor, avoid highly porous tile materials, like those with a water absorption rating over 7%. Don’t use non-vitreous tiles, or tiles fired at low temperatures, because they will absorb more water. If you use a highly porous tile in the shower, the tiles can wear down faster, meaning they’ll need to be replaced much sooner.

To ensure an even and unbending surface to lay tiles on, you’ll typically need to put a subfloor under a tile floor. Fiber cement backboards are the most common choice, but using plywood is also possible. Don’t neglect this step, or you could risk water damage and grout or tiles prematurely cracking or crumbling, especially in an area with high foot traffic.

Silicone caulk shouldn’t be used in place of grout because each material serves its own purpose. Thanks to its flexibility, silicone caulk is good for sealing around the perimeter of tiled floors, where movement and expansion might occur. However, grout is more durable, making it a better option for the joints in between tiles, which need to withstand constant weight and foot traffic.

The rule tells you how to cut tile to install it in a corner. The 3/4/5 rule recommends that you should have 3 feet across on one straight line, four feet on the other perpendicular line, and 5 feet of length from the end of one of the lines to the other. You’re making a right triangle with the tile, and the hypotenuse (the line across from where the 3-foot lie and 4-foot line meet) should be 5 feet long.

Most professional shower tile installations take between six and eight hours, depending on the size and complexity. Most projects get completed in a single workday. DIY-ing the project takes around three to four days or roughly 16 hours. However, this will vary based on the skill level of the person completing the work.
