Small jobs welcome

"I am extremely happy with Nickel City Property Maintenance. Nick, the owner, diagnosed the problem and explained to me in detail what needed to be done to correct it. He provided a fair estimate for the job and followed that up with an emailed written contract. Nick returned at the scheduled time with the proper equipment and materials and completed the job in a professional and expeditious manner. After the job he cleaned everything up and removed the discarded materials. I highly recommend Nickel City Property Maintenance. Mark B."

"Very well. If you use a sink that is not purchased from Pacific Tile (stainless only), be sure it is available early on in the installation process, to ensure it can be installed."

"They were super clean, covering the countertops and where they cut the tiles on the floor or outside. Every tile is placed perfectly even the tiny pieces even though it's an irregular tile (handmade lookalike). The outer edges are all clean and neat, and they helped me with pros and cons where we had different options, and looked to maximize the tile and look of the project. I had 3 other quotes for my project and picked DB for professional knowledge and price. Would definitely hire again."

"Excellent. Floors that have been covered up with carpet for years are beautiful. John made good recommendations and informed us of things we needed to know and do along the way. He called us when there was a glitch in his schedule which was very much appreciated. My husband and I would hire again."

"John came to my house and quoted me for installation of approximately 250sq feet of LVP flooring in my mudroom. The price was just right and performed the job flawlessly, fast and was extremely clean. He also prepared the floor by leveling some spots that had been uneven, upon his recommendation and explained the entire process throughly. I will undoubtedly be calling him for all my future floor projects with hesitation!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

For best results, you should remove the toilet in a bathroom before removing tile or installing new tile. If you don’t remove the toilet, it will be harder to fully waterproof the tile around the toilet, which could increase the risk of mold growth or plumbing leaks. If you have trouble removing the toilet, hire a plumber to help.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all best tile for a dog shower. Consider your budget, tile durability, aesthetics, and, most importantly, practicality. Avoid tiles your dog will slide around on. Pebbles are a great non-slip option, but are pricey and tricky to install. Glass might look modern, but it’s not scratch-resistant. Small, floor-rated ceramic or porcelain tiles are economical and have many grout lines that make the surface more slip-resistant. Pick a matte finish rather than a shiny tile if you want it to hide stray mud and hairs better.

Natural stone floors, especially pebble-style tiling, are one of the least slippery options for a shower floor. Natural stone has a texture to reduce slickness, and pebble-shaped tiles add more visual and textural contrast while reducing slippage. Vinyl tiles are also designed with anti-slip texture for added safety. If you have a slippery tile, be sure to add a grippy shower mat to reduce the risk of falls.

Yes, it’s always a good idea to keep a box or two of spare tiles after a home renovation project. Tiles can crack from improper installation, heavy foot traffic, and impact from drops. Having some extra tile on hand can make replacement fast, easy, and affordable. Plus, some manufacturers might discontinue particular colors or styles, and slight variations in tile colors between batches could mean mismatched tiles even if your product isn’t discontinued. Having a few spare tiles in storage can help avoid these issues, as well.

The easiest tile size to install is large tiles, and they’re easier to install than small tiles—the job is faster and simpler when there’s less placing, adhering, and grouting to do. However, when tiles get really big, they’re more difficult to handle, cut, and fit. Standard floor tile sizes are 12-by-12 inches, 18-by-18 inches, and 12-by-24 inches.
