"He is a perfectionist. He removed wallpaper and glue from 20 Yeats ago in my kitchen and dining room, treated and primed the walls, 2 costs of paint walls and ceiling. Hugo will come back in Spring to do living room dining rm and entry hall. He also gave me many creative ideas about using color and changing woodwork which I will do."

"We've had consistently great experiences with Custom Pro. We engaged Marcio and his team on multiple projects over the last few years touching virtually every part of our home- new kitchen and baths, staircase, roofing, siding, new front portico, flooring refinishing, new woodwork, etc. The team was punctual, courteous and professional throughout. Marcio himself was on site virtually every day. I wish all our “trades” experiences over the year were as good. Marcio and the team at Custom Pro have our unconditional endorsement. They truly cared about doing a good job and making us happy."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Many modern homes have soffits, but older ones don’t, and you may be wondering why. Older homes have eaves that extend further beyond the home and help to circulate air, negating the need for a soffit. This style of building has faded away, therefore, modern homes need separate soffit installation. Modern soffits are more efficient than this older style and require less material to construct, saving homeowners money.

Yes, carpenters can fix squeaky floors. They have the expertise to identify the source of the squeak, whether it’s loose floorboards, subfloor issues, or joist problems. These experts also have the right tools and hands-on knowledge to secure the flooring and eliminate the noise, ensuring a long-lasting solution.

No, beams are the primary load-bearers for flooring or roofing systems, and they distribute the weight of the structure to your foundational supports, while joists bear far less weight and distribute their loads to the beams. Beams are usually thicker and longer, and they have support posts or foundation walls beneath them for support.

Most landscape timbers are 8 feet long, but some are also available in 10-foot and 12-foot lengths. Choose the length that will allow you to install landscape timbers using the least amount of cutting to fit. Shorter timbers will allow you to more easily create angles and shorter plant bed sides.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.
