"We hired Joe to repair and replace the roof of our bookstore which we acquired in 2021 (a Victorian era brick and limestone building, 100+ years old). The roof is a 3000 sq ft flat commercial roof with latex waterproofing which has been patched over the years, but it’s likely been more than 30 years since major repairs were done. In the ensuing years, ice and snow have produced damage, and we saw major leaks by the winter of 2023. This damage was primarily in the boards (under the waterproofing) and ceiling rafters. Where possible, Joe made repairs, but where necessary, he replaced all materials. He added new insulation and new latex waterproofing throughout, He jacked portions of the ceiling rafters and repaired or replaced here as well. It was a huge and difficult job. He did excellent work. We are very happy with his work. As far as we’re concerned, he saved our bookstore."

"Rich and crew are very professional, clean, polite, honest and very helpful. The crew came and worked when they gave us a time they were here. The clean up they did was was great. We have dogs and the crew was great with them. Meaning dodging landmines in the yard, barking and respecting our dogs. Worth every cent. Thank you Rich and Team."

"I HIGHLY recommend All City Fence. They installed a PVC fence around my property in Beechhurst, Queens, as well as a cement walkway along the side of my house. The men were true specialists - they didn't finish their work until it was perfect and that I was satisfied. They were professional at all times and extremely respectful of my neighbors. They removed my old chain link fence & made sure that all trash & materials were removed. This is a company owned by great people that are dedicated to great work & customer satisfaction. Please include them when you're looking for home projects - you will not be disappointed!"

"This is aa A++ professional. Gary and his crew are extraordinary. They did a phenomenal job completing the work and communicating throughout the project. They are hard working and Gary goes above and beyond to ensure quality and follows up to make sure we are totally satisfied. He was very accommodating working with us on ideas and suggestions. They would clean up daily and always asked for permission to leave equipment out or they would move it out of our way. When they first engaged the machine (blower/fan) to measure the air flow throughout the home - it was like being in a wind tunnel. You could actually hear and feel the air movement. Gary actually sectioned off our home to determine exactly what each area needed. The repairs that were done were obvious when they retested and we are already seeing a difference in our energy bills. I cannot say enough about Gary and his crew - they were professional as well as being personable. I have already recommended The Climate Chief to neighbors and co-workers. I absolutely will hire again."

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

When temperatures drop far enough, even rock salt can’t melt the ice. The briny solution freezes before it develops, and the salt doesn’t work, which happens around 10 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep in mind that wind chill and other factors impact ice-melting progress. Some ice melters, like magnesium chloride, work at colder temperatures and work better for deep winter freezes.

Heavy amounts of snow could be a problem. In many climates, lots of snow on your rooftop can lead to freeze-thaw cycle that create ice dams, which can damage rooftops. But if you’re using shingle clips, this snow poses an additional problem: As it melts and freezes, it can easily dislodge clips you’ve placed on your roof.

You can clean snow off your roof after a fresh snowfall while it’s still lightweight, but brushing off snow can also dislodge your clips. If you get a lot of snow, then roof clips become less viable.

Before firing up your snowblower, ensure that essential switches are in the correct starting position. Take a moment to double-check the throttle, fuel shut-off, and choke, ensuring they're firmly set to the "on" position. Precision in verifying each switch's alignment is crucial, so don't rush through this critical step.

DIY snow removal is entirely free, except for the cost of a shovel. However, it may not always be the best option for large driveways and areas with heavy snowfall; it’s strenuous work and can take a long time. Other wallet-friendly ways to remove snow include rock salt, hot water, a de-icing agent, or a leaf blower.

The easiest way to remove snow from a roof involves using a roof rake that allows you to clear snow from the ground. Roof rakes are lightweight and feature adjustable handles, making them user-friendly for most people. This method also helps prevent ice dams and excess snow buildup, reducing the risk of roof damage during winter months.

When should you remove snow from your roof? A good rule of thumb is once six inches of snow accumulates.
