"Gonti painted my house, barn, and chicken house last September. Instead of an instant review, I decided to wait through the fall and winter and see how their painting weathered a couple of rough seasons. Hopefully, this offers the reader a more valuable review. Bottom line, I couldn’t be more delighted. The paint job looks like it did the day they finished, with no peeling or cracks. After receiving three quotes from 5 star rated service providers, I selected Gonti for three reasons: 1. Their reviews were numerous and impeccable. I called 2 of their former customers who praised them profusely and read several other glowing reviews. 2. Clei, the owner, is trustworthy, a man of great integrity. 3. Their quote was the lowest, as Clei had predicted. This team of experienced professionals did everything meticulously, including the hardest part - preparation. Their attention to detail, including the rails on our large deck, was impeccable. Hire these guys!"

Small jobs welcome

"If you are looking for a skilled, reliable, and honest builder look no further. Throughout our project planing Michael was helpful and knowledgeable, during the work schedule Michael was in full communication, disclosed any setbacks, and redirected any issue that arose. Home project can take on a life of their own, but Michael managed it all with poise and determination to get me relaxing on my beautiful deck as soon as possible. I would (and will) hire Michael and his crew again."

"Anton and his crew are the greatest! We truly enjoyed working with them, Anton is extremely responsive, extremely dedicated, and most importantly, a true artist/artisan. We asked him to use only reclaimed wood and the most environmentally sustainable materials. He researched the best environmentally sound ways to insulate our house (using stone wool and alternatives to Tyvek, which we did not want to use because it's from DuPont) and he made numerous trips farther upstate from our Mid-Hudson house to locate the perfect reclaimed wood at old barns that were being torn down and resold as reclaimed wood. He gut renovated our really skanky old house into a magnificent jewel of post and beam construction to the point that peoples' jaws drop when they walk in."

"My husband and I hired Fernando to paint the entire interior of our brand new house. Fernando listened to our choices, desires and needs. He went ABOVE AND BEYOND to get the colors just how we wanted. He was also very professional, kind and absolutely stood to his word on quality AND he completed our house in the time he had mentioned. Fernando also offers the best prices for his amazing quality of work. We will definitely be rehiring him in the future and we will absolutely recommend him to everyone."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

You don't need to seal your deck after painting it because most exterior paints are waterproof and weather-resistant. While stealing is not necessary, it can add an additional layer of protection.

By applying protective finishes and using durable materials that withstand weather and time.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Pressure-treated wood lasts at least 10 years, but with the right care and treatment, it can last as long as 40 years. Painting the boards is one way to increase the lifespan of pressure-treated wood. The layer of paint provides extra protection for the wood against the exterior elements and insects.
