"I highly recommend hiring Sal The Door Guy of LI. Sal did an exceptional job installing our front door. He was highly professional, punctual, and demonstrated great attention to detail throughout the process. Since the installation, we have received numerous compliments on the door, and both my husband and I are absolutely thrilled with the result. We are incredibly happy we trusted The Door Guy of LI with this project."

"I would like to recognize employee Doug A at SafeStreet/ADT. We’ve had an old security system sitting in our house for over 15 years without service or functionality. He took the time to explain the differences between how the old systems work and how the new systems work. He was patient with us, and we are happy customers."

Customers say: Super punctual

"I called Hank, the owner, to discuss my requirements for an alarm system for my elderly parents' home: I needed something full coverage, simple-to-operate, and without a long-term contract that might become problematic if my folks needed to move from their home for health reasons. Hank answered all my questions and proposed a system and arrangement that fully met my needs. The installers were professional and efficient, and took the time to explain the system's operation. When a faulty smoke detector caused an alarm when my parents were away from the home, Hank and team were terrific in following up (even after hours) and immediately scheduling a replacement for the defective device. I highly recommend this company."

"Walter and Glen at Protect Your Home Group with ADT are the best people to talk to in terms of security alarm. Being a locksmith myself I know how important it is to deal with the right people. I referred a lot of customers to them and so far they are happy with their service. I myself got one for my house. Thank you for a consistent service and great deal."

Customers say: Quick response

"First off Rob is a TRUE Professional! We just had new carpet and tile installed throughout the house from a big box store. They removed and replaced trim where they laid tile but not carpet. This left us with mismatched base moulding. Rob was able to correct. Corners are tight, heights are matching, and everything it clean! Courteous, exacting and top notch! Takes his time, does it right the first time. Reasonably priced, exceptional value for the job! Really and truly above and beyond. THE REAL DEAL! Highly recommend!"

"I had a handyman replace my sink and vanity in the bathroom of my home. He was very reliable. He took ownership and returned to fix a leaky faucet. He took care of the issue immediately. Fantastic customer service."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

The best type of deadbolt depends on your specific needs. If accessibility is your primary concern, a single-cylinder deadbolt is the easiest to operate. Mortise locks are likely the most secure type of deadbolt you can install, but single-cylinders combined with secondary locking mechanisms like vertical locks are also a great option. Smart locks will give you the most flexibility to open and close your locks whenever and wherever you need to.

Rekeying your own locks is a low-cost task that prevents you from having to replace the locks themselves completely. The first couple of times you rekey a lock may be challenging because this is an intermediate DIY task. You can purchase a rekey kit from most hardware stores, but make sure you’re buying the kit from the brand of lock in your home that you’re going to rekey.

A deadbolt differs from a regular lock in its design, construction, and security level. Regular locks are typically used for interior doors, such as for bedrooms and bathrooms, and provide minimal security. They are easy to install and use, often featuring a simple locking mechanism on the inside. In contrast, a deadbolt is one of the most secure locks you can install on an exterior door. Its internal construction is designed to withstand significant force, adding a crucial layer of security that can deter intruders. While deadbolts may be more expensive and complicated to install, they are cost-effective for the security they provide and are built to hold up to wear and tear.

Rekeying is typically cheaper than replacing locks. Professional rekeying costs between $40 and $160, sometimes with an additional fee of $15 to $40 per lock. A locksmith's hourly rate averages around $75. If you do it yourself, a rekeying kit can cost as little as $10. In contrast, replacing a lock costs between $130 and $500, with an average of around $315, depending on the hardware and lock type. Rekeying is a simpler process that changes the key for your existing lock without replacing the hardware. It is a good option if you have a quality lock that works well, you've recently moved, you've lost a key, or you need a quick security upgrade. The best choice depends on the condition of your current locks.

It could be difficult to get in and out of a lock for several reasons, such as the keyhole needing additional lubrication. Particles, debris, and dirt can also get into a lock, making a key stuck (the lubrication can help with the removal).
