"Nick gave us a very reasonable estimate, and a window of when the job would be completed. After we accepted Nick job proposal, he contacted us with a day and time he would arrive for the tree removal. The trees (dead Ash) were removed, and the area was cleaned up beautifully. I highly recommend Nick, he is dependable and professional!"

They accommodated my specific times of coming to give me the quote and then as promised they called ahead and showed up and worked the whole time they were here. ... Very satified with the job.... and the price...... my neighbors noticed the work they did also and they were impressed.... I found them in the Clipper Magazine and glad of it.... "Paul was very personable and knowledgeable. He cut down several dead, very tall old trees in the back of our lot. It was done efficiently. The trees were cut down and taken away and debris cleaned up sufficiently. I would recommend Muolo's Tree Service and if need further tree removal in the future will most likely be calling on his again."

"I contacted Highland Tree Services because they were highly rated. I needed trimming on all three sides of my back yard due to neighbors’ tree branches hanging over my fences, and my Japanese Maple needed to be trimmed and thinned. Justin came for an estimate and noticed a problem at the crotch of the maple which he treated when he came back to do all the work. Justin and Dan were pleasant and professional and worked very hard in hot, humid weather for hours. All trimmings were removed and put through their chipper. I would recommend Highland for any kind of tree service you might need."

"I almost took a Star away because he showed up 90 minutes later than the originally discussed time. But the work was done quickly and efficiently, even cutting back a little more than proposed so neighbors tree no longer overhangs my driveway/property line. And he cleaned up nice. Would hire again"

"I couldn't be happier with the wood fence installation recently completed at my property. From start to finish, the entire process was handled with the utmost professionalism. The team showed up on time, communicated clearly, and worked efficiently to get the job done. The craftsmanship is top-notch — every panel is perfectly aligned, and the attention to detail is evident throughout. They took the time to make sure everything was level and secure, and they left the worksite clean and tidy when they finished. It's clear they take pride in their work. Beyond the high-quality results, the crew was courteous and respectful of my space. They made sure to address any questions I had and kept me updated throughout the project. If you're looking for a reliable, skilled team for a fence installation, I highly recommend them. The final product looks amazing and adds so much to the overall look and value of my home!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

A chainsaw is the best tool to cut down a tree, but you may also use a handsaw or ax. You may also want to use a lopper or pole saw to remove limbs before cutting down the tree. Wear chainsaw chaps and protective gear, including eyewear and earplugs if you use a chainsaw. Again, if you’re unsure about how to use this tool, this project may be one to skip.

After a big storm, you may not be sure if a tree was struck or not. Look for the telltale long scars, like strips or gouges in the bark of the tree, running in sometimes jagged lines down the length of the trunk. These scars will often show vulnerable living wood inside the tree. It’s also common to see scorched or wilted leaves on the side or top of the tree where lightning struck.

Whether you should remove the roots of a dead tree depends on whether they’re damaging nearby areas. For instance, if the roots continue to grow near sidewalks, driveways, or the foundation of your home, they can cause damage. If you want to plant something else in that spot, removing the roots can make it easier for the new tree or plant to grow.

It depends on where you live—but in most areas, leaves begin falling in September and continue falling until January or February. Warmer regions, such as Southern states, may see leaves fall a bit later in the calendar year. It also depends on the type of trees in your yard and their maturity.

Trees provide many benefits, including shade, habitat for local wildlife, and cleaner air, so it’s always a good idea to try an alternative strategy like crown reduction before you chop one down. But sometimes, cutting down a tree is the only option (like if it’s severely diseased). A licensed arborist can assess the tree and recommend the best course of action.
