"Chris made an unscheduled trip to deal with an in ground yellow jacket nest and got rid of them for me. They've done a good job on routine pest control visits as well."

"I had to call Craig Thomas Pest Control 4 times and each time I called I spoke to a different person.  It seems I was reaching a call center each time.  This was a problem because I needed to cancel the appointment I had made with them.  When I called to do so I ended up speaking to a different individual than the one that scheduled my appointment.  To avoid any miscommunication I called Craig Thomas twice to make sure the appointment was cancelled.  I then made an appointment with another local provider who had very good Angie's list reviews.  The problem was Craig Thomas Pest Control's scheduling department is very disorganized.  They failed to cancel the appointment and a technician arrived at my house anyway.  This was awkward because I had scheduled another local provider for the same time.  Unfortunately the Craig Thomas technician arrived before my preferred provider arrived without giving me a courtesy call to let me know he was on his way for an appointment that didn't really exist! The other local provider being a fair and professional individual offered to come in and use his digital heat sensor device to locate the bee hive in the wall of our bedroom.  He did this free of charge and thank goodness he did because the Craig Thomas technician's method of investigation was to put his ear up against the wall and listen.  The Craig Thomas ear against the wall method unfortunately was ineffective at locating the beehive.  If the other local provider had not been there I don't know how this appointment would have turned out...not very good I'm guessing.  The technician from Craig Thomas was respectful and professional and after the other local provider located the beehive the Craig Thomas technician did complete the chemical application.  I don't blame the Craig Thomas technician because he was just doing his job in the way that he was trained or instructed to so by Craig Thomas.  But I would not use Craig Thomas again in the future.  I will instead use that other local provider with the digital heat sensor device and easy scheduling.

"After we recently moved into our new home, we needed to have several bird holes repaired in the siding of our home left by many woodpeckers over what must have been a few years. We also had a dead smell in the house that would pop up for a few days and then go away. This happened several times over a couple of months. We didn't know if the two things were connected or not. First, Angel helped us determine that there were no birds active in any of the holes - due thankfully to the time of year (late September). He then filled the holes and repainted them to match the side of the house. There were 6 all visible on the same wall. He advised against the standard practice of other pest services to nail a piece of tin over the hole because it would make the wall look like a dalmatian. The work he did looks amazing. He also set up terad3 bait traps all around the house inside and out to address our rodent issues, likely the cause of all the dead smells. The traps are safe (locked and containing Terad3, a safer alternative to straight-up poison). Angel is super knowledgeable about wildlife behavior, how to remove them, and the ins and outs of houses. He also has years of experience working as a builder and restorer of historical houses - which comes in handy when determining where mice and other rodents might be living. He is punctual, diligent, knowledgeable, personable, and does great work at a good price. I highly recommend AC Wildlife Removal."

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

This depends on if their needs are being met. They'll likely return night after night if they have access to food, water, and adequate shelter. If this changes, they’ll look for another roosting spot. This is why bright lights and other dissuading factors often work when removing bats from a property.

When woodpeckers start banging on your walls or roof, they are probably looking for insects to eat, storing nuts for winter, drilling a hole to make a nest, or communicating with other birds to establish territory or find a mate.

The size of the hole can help determine the reason for the pecking. Small irregular holes are a result of insect hunts. Acorn holes are more consistently sized and often fitted with a nut in the middle. Nest holes are large and have rounded edges. If the bird is pecking to mark its territory or attract a mate, it may leave dents rather than holes, and the noise will stop when the mating season starts in spring.

Some of the plants listed above, like daffodils, are poisonous to many animals if eaten. But wild animals instinctively avoid them, for the most part. Household pets don’t always have the same survival instinct, which is why it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with common plants that pose a danger to cats and dogs.

It can be difficult to know what type of animal is in your attic until you see it. But several clues can help you narrow down the suspects:

  • Sounds: Smaller animals like rats and mice make scurrying and tapping/gnawing sounds. Larger animals like raccoons and opossums make louder clambering noises. Also, note when animals are noisy: Squirrels are active during the day, while rats are busiest at night.

  • Droppings: Rats and mice leave small, rice-shaped droppings (the rat’s version is significantly larger). Bigger droppings belong to larger critters like raccoons. As long as you’re not squeamish, an image search can help you identify what you’re seeing in your attic.

When in doubt, take photos of damage or other evidence and show them to an experienced pest control pro.

There are DIY methods and store-bought pesticides available for the public to use. However, these pesticides also come with a risk, and you need to follow the directions correctly and take precautionary measures to prevent exposure to these chemicals. These methods may be an option for small pest problems, but you should call in a pest control specialist for persistent pests and infestations.
