"Fernando and Fabio came to my house bright and early. They were consummate professionals and carefully checked all my outlets, some of which had emitted sparks. They replaced a dimmer switch and a couple of other outlets. Fernando updated the switch on the electric baseboard heat in my basement. I asked him to quickly check a ceiling fan and bathroom fans which were inoperative. He gave specific info on what replacements I needed to purchase for the next time I call them to update these items. Very knowledgeable and patient young men who answered my many questions!"

"The receptionist at Conte Electrical was courteous and efficient and scheduled a service appointment within two days of my call. The work I wished to have completed was not urgent so short wait was fine. I think that an emergency would have elicited an immediate service call. The electrician dispatched to my home was punctual. He phoned about 1 hour in advance to let me know when he would arrive. He was extremely pleasant and very efficient, with knowledge of the problems I had presented to receptionist. He got right to work and was finished within about one hour! He even offered to help me move a very heavy air conditioner that had been obstructing the entrance to my second floor to our outside deck!  The electrician also saved me a ton of money by repairing things that others would likely have needlessly replaced.  My wife and I have decided to call Conte whenever we need the services of an electrician and recommend them to others."

"KEN, from Advanced Electric, did an excellent job. The cost to do the job was very reasonable. He arrived on time and kept us informed every step of the way. He upgraded our outdated electrical panels and circuit breakers doing all work to code, correcting wiring issues found along the way. I will definitely hire Advanced Electric again for any of our electrical needs."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

String lights require electricity, but not an excessive amount, especially when compared to other lighting fixtures. LED rope lights, for instance, consume around one watt per foot. Running six or seven light strings simultaneously should only cost you around $10 to $15 each month. You can save even more money by remembering to turn off your lights during daylight hours.

The size of your home will help determine the size of your electrical panel. Usually, the decision comes down to a 100-amp electrical panel versus a 200-amp panel. Smaller homes, especially those without an HVAC system, may be able to get by with a 100-amp panel.

If you have a larger home or need to power AC, a 200-amp panel should be the best fit. It’s unlikely that you’ll need a larger panel than that unless you have a larger home or unique electrical needs, but an electrician can help you make the final call.

Yes, Christmas lights on a timer are just as safe as any other Christmas lights are. Most fires caused by holiday lights are due to damage to the strings of lights themselves or from too many lights being plugged into one circuit.

First, check the current electrical code in your area to ensure spaces you’re considering meet the requirements. After that, your outlet’s location is up to you. If you’re moving it to hide wiring, you may want to move it in a spot that will also be hidden from view, such as behind a media center or table. As long as you meet the spacing guidelines set by electrical codes, you should be able to pick any spot in your home for an outlet.

Short circuits can cause fires, electrical burns, and electrocution, which can lead to serious injury or even death. That’s why it’s important to take preventative measures to prevent short circuits, like getting annual electrical maintenance and an electrical inspection every two to five years, depending on the age of your home.
