"Wow - I recognize how difficult it is to hire a contractor. I was very concerned about whether a quality job would be performed, about whether the contractor would respect my house and property (for example - cigarette butts in my yard, etc.) and whether I would get value for the money being spent. I could not have been more pleased with Roger and the work performed by him and his team. Roger completely understood the stress homeowners have with contractors. Roger treated my house as though it was his own - he treated it with great respect. Roger kept be updated throughout the process, he kept my house clean and the end product was more than what I expected. I would hire Roger for any future work that I would have and I would be glad to speak to any future homeowner considering Roger. FANTASTIC JOB!!!!!"

I am someone who is trying to start a business. I’ve been in and around the construction industry for 20+ years, mainly doing commercial residential construction. I want to build something of my own where I feel my work can be noticed. I travel anywhere within the greater Rochester region. I look forward to meeting with you. Thank you

"Dylan was a pleasure to work with. I started this project on my own doing the masonry work and Dylan came in to do all of the framing. He did a fantastic job hiding my mistakes and it turned out great. He may look like a young guy, but he is professional and experienced at what he does. They came in, got the job done, cleaned up and got out within less than a week. No lingering back and forth, waiting for the project to get done. Great communication, kept to his word and kept to his timeline. I would highly recommend!"

"I’m thrilled with Lawn Pros of WNY and I’d happily recommend them to anyone who needs lawn maintenance services. I contacted Lawn Pros after the service I’d hired to cut my lawn left me high and dry for 3 weeks. Lawn Pros replied to my inquiry quickly, gave me a very fair price, and cut my lawn the SAME DAY!!! I couldn’t be happier with Lawn Pros of WNY, they went above and beyond for me, excellent service."

"It went very well. The workers were friendly and the work was completed on time and our basement looks terrific. Their attention to detail was outstanding and we're very happy with the final product. The company was also very flexible and knowledgeable and suggested some changes to our original blueprints which helped settle some disagreements about the floor plan between my husband and I."

"The work ethic of this women can not be matched. Her crew is out standing. I was home throughout most of the job, and I never seen them sit down.

the crew were very nice, and professional, they also were big on using products that were safe for my yard and landscaping. I could not believe how much time they spent on prepping my building. I was worried about that, because anyone can paint, but she had everyone sanding all of my boards down, and making them smooth, and caulked and sealed every part of my home..

The best part was the clean up, They did not spill one drop of paint in the yard or anywhere else. Maria was very contentious of keeping my garage clear of her equipment, and at the end of everyday she took all of her tools and brushes home to clean, never at my house. It was a little more than I wanted to pay, but worth every cent. They put 3 coats of paint on everything, and I took advantage of her color designer, who was also a huge asset to us. Great Job!

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The choice between Trex, a brand of composite decking, and PVC decking depends on your priorities regarding budget, appearance, and environmental impact. Both materials are durable and resistant to moisture and insects. Trex is often considered more eco-friendly because it contains recycled wood and plastic and is 25% recyclable, while PVC is fully synthetic and harder to recycle. Aesthetically, Trex is designed to look more like real wood, whereas PVC often has a glossier, more plastic-like finish. In terms of cost, Trex is typically less expensive than PVC.

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.

Materials for a second-story deck must be weather- and rot-resistant, though the specific choices will largely be determined by your budget and style preference. Pressure-treated wood is on the lower end of the price scale, but it can be customized and stained the way you like it. Composite, on the other hand, is pricier for installation and has fewer options for customization, but you’ll save money and time in the long run because it requires little maintenance.

The proper and most comfortable height for a deck stair riser, also called a step, is between four and seven inches. A height of seven inches is often considered ideal for a strain-free step that minimizes the risk of trips and falls. While it is possible to have risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. For optimal safety and comfort, pair a seven-inch riser with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. Always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements that differ from these general recommendations.

The best direction for a gate to swing depends on its location and purpose, but swinging inward is the general rule. An inward swing is often considered safer, prevents the gate from opening into public spaces like a sidewalk, and may be required by local building codes.

There are exceptions and specific considerations. If your property is on a slope, an inward swing might not be possible. For a deck gate, it's safest to have it swing away from any steps. In a backyard, the direction can be a matter of preference, though an inward swing can be helpful when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

Regardless of direction, ensure the gate can open fully without hitting any objects or blocking spaces. While an inward swing is standard, a gate that can swing both in and out offers the most flexibility if your setup allows for it.
