"Got our dryer vent cleaned out. I did not realize that every dryer vent should be cleaned out at least once in a while. Ours was fully plugged and the dryer smelled like something was burning. First I thought I needed an appliance repair company, but they don't clean out the vents. They suggested a plumber, but they don't do this either. I finally found Pure Air and they repaired part of the hose where it was shredded and completely cleaned out the entire system. I cannot recommend them highly enough. If you don't know when the last time you had your dryer vent cleaned, call them ASAP. It could save you from having a fire."

Cleaning questions, answered by experts

You’ll often find mildew and soap scum in the same place, but they are very different substances. Mildew is a substance composed of living fungi, whereas soap scum is primarily an accumulation of mineral deposits. Mildew needs chronic moisture to thrive, while soap scum is unaffected by damp conditions (though it is a residue left behind by the water).

Clean high-traffic areas such as kitchen surfaces, bathroom surfaces, and bedding once per week. Deep clean other areas every three months to a year. How you use a space can help you figure out how often it should be cleaned, with areas where eating, bathing, and food prep occur getting the most frequent attention.

On average, it takes between four and eight hours to deep clean a house. The exact time depends on factors like the size of the home, the number of rooms, and how dirty it is. A home that is frequently cleaned will take less time than one that is not. If you are short on time, you can break the job into smaller tasks or hire a professional house cleaner.

Aside from rinsing your sink with dish soap daily, we recommend disinfecting your sink one to two times per week. You can make your own homemade cleaning spray and have it ready for your weekly cleanings. If you work with raw meat in your sink, make sure you wash the entire sink basin and drain with dish soap immediately after use.

As a general rule, you should clean your oven at least every three months, though this depends on how often you use it and the amount of residue buildup. A clear sign that your oven needs cleaning is if you notice smoke or a burning smell during use. Many ovens have a self-cleaning cycle, which heats the oven to an extreme temperature. If you use this feature, stay home while it runs and consider ventilating the room, as it can create smoke. For manual cleaning, you can make a paste of baking soda and water or use white vinegar before resorting to harsher, store-bought oven cleaners.
