"Mike from Behind the Grind was excellent. I had a small stump in the front of my yard that we needed to grind. He was prompt, friendly, professional, and gave a fair price. I would highly recommend!"

"I had a tree in the front yard that had caused damage to my home. I called numerous tree companies to get the debris cleaned up and the tree removed. Richter was the only company that actually answered my call. They showed up in an hour (from 45 minutes away) with a full crew and bucket truck with chipper on a holiday weekend! They were very efficient and did a great job cleaning up. They even took time to chat with my neighbors about a tree in their yard. Very professional! Highly recommended!"

"They were extremely courteous and worked diligently until the job was completed to both their and our satisfaction. I have every intention of utilizing their services again in the near future for further tree removal and lawn care. I remain amazed to this day at the quality of work they were able to do with a minimum of invasiveness on the property. These gentlemen are professionals."

"Absolutely fabulous! I had an overgrown lawn about 3ft high and they didn’t even blink! Just said no problem! They were also the only people I called that actually answered their phone.& I didn’t have to leave a msg with a computer prompt that kept cutting me off. They even came to ck out the job first. It was a huge job and they are miracle workers. I will be utilizing their services for years to come. 10 stars! Definitely recommend them."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Pruning trees is important for several reasons. It improves tree health and strength by removing dead, diseased, or unwanted branches, which in turn encourages new growth and can help treat disease. For fruit trees, proper pruning can lead to a larger and better-quality harvest. Pruning also enhances safety by removing weak limbs that could break and fall, potentially causing injury or property damage, especially during storms. Beyond these functional benefits, pruning can also improve a tree's appearance. To ensure pruning is done correctly for the tree's long-term health, consider hiring a professional.

If you’re taking down a tree that you don’t suspect is affected by disease or pests and it’s nowhere near your home or other structures, then calling in a tree company should work fine. However, anything more involved means an arborist is a better option. These pros have years of experience with tree removal and can safely take down trees located next to structures, and they have the tools, sanitization equipment, and experience to remove sick or dying trees without infecting nearby trees.

Ensures complete removal and mitigates risks of underground root damage.

Most experts recommend removing a tree that has sustained more than 25% loss in the limbs, trunk, or circumference of the bark. Doing an initial trimming of damaged and dangling branches, but then waiting a few days of monitoring to decide how much more you might need to cut can help you better assess the total damage to the tree. However, consulting a tree maintenance pro to make this determination the best course of action before removing a tree.

If it’s your property, then you can plant a tree near power lines, but it’s not the best idea. Any vegetation that grows within 10 feet or so of power lines will fall under the responsibility of the utility company, and they may trim or remove it as necessary. If you do move forward with your plan, try to choose a smaller ornamental tree, plant it as far away from the power lines as you can, and keep it trimmed to avoid future problems.
