Called SMG & within an hour came to look at it & was dealt with now not after more damage is done. They also put in a new roof as I found another leak...no waiting, no fuss. And all done in one day. Resurfacing a tub is worth it if there are just a few dings, scratches, or chips. Expect to pay about $330 to $630 to refinish a tub. You can restore your tub to looking brand new for less money than replacing the tub. But you're better off replacing old bathtubs with heavy damage, mold, or other major issues.

Ammonia is a powerful household cleaner, but don’t use it for your acrylic tub. Ammonia or cleaners containing this ingredient can break down the surface of the acrylic bathtub and leave it with permanent damage. Instead, try a gentler store-bought acrylic tub cleaner, or a homemade baking soda cleaner.

It is worth it to refinish a bathtub if your current tub is in good shape. Refinishing your tub can remove scratches from wear and tear, cover blemishes and stains, and fill small cracks. However, consider replacing your tub if it’s severely damaged, has large cracks, or leaks.

If your bathtub is in overall good shape with minor scratches, discoloration, or just general wear and tear, it's best (and less expensive) to refinish it. 

If your tub has large cracks, is leaking, or is otherwise severely damaged, we recommend replacing it with a new bathtub. Refinishing a bathtub can only fix superficial problems, so these issues will still be present or reappear after a refinishing.

If your Corian® countertop begins to appear dull or dirty, or you notice scratches on the surface, you can return it to its original finish while maintaining its look. To do this, repair any scratches with a repair compound and sand the surface after it dries. 

Then, use an orbital sander with either a 100-, 30-, or 15-micron disc and finish with a hand pad (like Scotch-Brite™ 7447 or 7448) or lamb’s wool bonnet and automotive cutting compound for a matte, semi-gloss, or gloss-finish, respectively.
