"RUN FAR AWAY FROM ALLIED AND TOM. Tom took my money and did not complete the renovations as per our contract. He lied about having a licensed electrician to do electrical work, it was just one of his workers who's not licensed. I paid for a dumpster and when it was delivered by tom it was already half full from another allied job and I was asked to pay the full amount of $950. Tom didn't listen to anything I said regarding the work I requested and he changed my design and did work that was cheaper for him. I was priced for one of my ceiling's to be ripped out and reinstalled with new sheetrock, Tom waited until I was away on business then he installed sheetrock on top of the bad sheetrock and told me he ripped out the old sheetrock and installed the new sheetrock, I found out when my EC cut holes to install lights and we found 2 layers of sheetrock preventing the lights from being able to be installed. Allied construction is a cheap, sneaky company who will steal your money and breach your contract. Do not hire these people Tom is a lair. Tom wore a gun in my house on his hip and told me "I use this to get paid by customer who don't want to pay". Tom left live 120v wires hanging out of the walls and ceiling, he removed a banister and didn't replace it for 3 weeks making my home very unsafe for me and my 9 year old son."

Architectural student -turned engineer -turned entrepreneur. As a builder contractor in the field for over 30 years, I understand that honesty and integrity come first. I run a crew of four men, who I conduct on the job everyday and I am always on the job site. I'm now 30 years in business successful and still dedicated to my client's total satisfaction. Trying and succeeding to do a professional job for one important person at a time - you.

"Tanem has a long history of good work. Gene did several projects for me years ago and I was glad to find Paul picked up the same qualities Gene had established. Both are easy to work with, knowledgeable, make lots of helpful suggestions so the project comes out even better than I had thought it would. You tell Paul what you want done, and he, and Gene in an advisory role, find a way to make it even better. They are flexible and just know how to find solutions. Their crews know what they’re doing. Paul keeps checking and keeps you informed as work progresses. I couldn’t be happier to see Paul continuing the Tanem tradition."

With over 25 years experience, family owned and operated. We are a home improvement contractor that pride ourselves on being available for our customers, standing behind our product, service and labor. Focusing on kitchen and bathroom remodeling in the New York City and Brooklyn area working on brownstone homes and apartment renovations.

"Mark took a deposit from me and then never followed up on submitting the proposal I signed to my co-op and getting approval. Finally almost a year later, I asked for the deposit back, and he said he would mail immediately after briefly trying to convince me to still let him do the job, because it was simply "out of sight out of mind". That was 2 years ago. I'm filing a small claims case against him/the company tomorrow."

"As someone who can be skeptical of handyman jobs in homes, this company earned my trust and my business. Their communication was always on point and were open to suggestions and new ideas and concepts. Discreet, kind, and moderately priced, these guys are my new top choice for any work in my residence, from electrical to plumbing to construction. They can do anything. Gaudioso Contracting: Your trusted partner for all your remodeling needs in the Tri-State Area. From start to finish, our experienced team delivers top-notch craftsmanship and exceptional customer service. Contact us today for a stress-free and successful home renovation project.

"Nightmare from start to finish. Buckle in. We hired Gaudioso to do a 1-bedroom renovation. They submitted the lowest bid after multiple site visits and design reviews. Once signed, communication problems went rampant. Countless unacknowledged emails, texts, and calls. Weeks of delay for COIs, quotes, and updates. They couldn’t bring brick samples to our building because “it was raining.” After months of working through approvals, they delivered a revised contract that was DOUBLE their original —151% higher—knowing we were locked in. Pure bait-and-switch. They will say the scope of work changed. I will happily share the original designs and final versions and challenge anyone to point out the differences. When I asked for more consistent updates, Anthony called me directly, not to apologize, but to take offense at the tone of my email. He also screamed “I’m not your f***king dude!!!” when I dared utter a colloquial term like “dude” out of frustration for the direction of the call. To this day, a year after signing the contract, I have yet to receive a schedule, calendar, or overall work plan. Once work began, change orders piled up. Tens of thousands of dollars for items like crown and wall moldings, all clearly depicted in the drawings since day one. If I protested, I was told further discussion would add time and they would “put the breaks on progress until it’s sorted,” weaponizing our extended time away from home. Change orders culminated with the hot water tank, an item Gaudioso was paid $3,350 to move one foot. The tank had worked perfectly before this project. After we moved back in, we noticed the tank leaking and notified Gaudioso. Knowing we were in a bind and living in the unit at this point, they submitted a change order of $4,200 to install a new tank after THEY broke the old one. Inexcusable extortion. When I said no, their foreman pushed the idea like a used car salesman, offering to knock off a few hundred dollars if I said yes that day. Finally, we noticed water pooling up around the base of the toilet. I called their plumber and messaged Gaudioso on an email account monitored by their entire staff. No reply. So, I called an emergency plumber who came, moved the toilet, and found a massive, congealed mess of work materials (plastic bags, tape, work rags, debris) shoved down the drain. It was clearly beyond anything accidental. See pictures. Anthony will say that other contractors were on site during the project and could have done it (he is referring to a carpenter I had cutting and sanding wood outside of the unit for a few hours). He will deny everything else. To which I say, please let me prove it. Find me on LinkedIn, shoot me a message. I will happily share every single email, text, picture, and contract. After two weeks of no response to my duress message, and only reaching out to ask for money, I told Gaudioso I am terminating the contract. Anthony called me and spent 26 minutes screaming, cursing, and insulting, at one point adding, and I quote: “I’ll found out exactly where you work, I’ll find out exactly who you deal with, I’ll find out who your colleagues are, I'll tell them exactly what a piece of sh*t you are. Cause that’s what you are, a piece of sh*t. F*cking dishonorable piece of sh*t. What goes around comes around, don’t forget. If it doesn’t happen to you, it’ll happen to somebody in your family. You’ll see. Karma’s a bi*ch.” Does that make you feel safe and excited to work with Gaudioso? Protect your wallet, protect your time, protect your home, and protect your family. Choose any of the other dozens of honest contractors in NYC. And please reach out directly if you want proof of any of this – I don’t wish this experience on anyone else."

VPT Quartz We are a stone company based out of New York that specialize in-door and out-door home construction or Renovation project. We work with wide selections of stone, from Granite, Marble, Quartz and more. We Specialize in Designing, fabricating and installing the stone. Our main focus is to execute each project to perfection with minimum affect to your daily routine.

"Background- I was finally able to afford a new counter top- did research and Angi/Home Advisor kept coming up.So I checked out what was offered for counter tops - 3 came up -2 did not respond and VPT Quartz or Vilorio's Personal Touch. I had an estimate appt on 7/18/24. A "MIKE" showed show up eventfully - very late & full of excuses. Since he was so late I decided to let my Pit Bull & German Shepard- ( since they been locked up for a few hrs. And I was doing some yard work. He did not show any respect for the time it me to put the dogs away again and clean up. I told him I didn't appreciate him showing up like that with no call- he stated he text me but I have a landline (which I made very clear to Brian (office person) so again another excuse. I let him come in (free estimate anyway & a 5 star rating). Mike comes in and starts with the great deals he has. Then starts doing measurements just by pushing my stuff that I had left On the counter out of the way like garbage. Which I found disrespectful. Lucky(????) for me MIke has a piece of quartz that would fit- a speckled white. Mike will give a good price $1300 -I said like to think about it. Then Mike throw in another deal (that's because he didn't like the over the counter sink I had & the faucet installed myself professionally w/o no problem) but I knew that the sink & faucet deal($100) was ok. So I agreed. ;Mike stated he would come back to make sure he had the right measurements, called I to make the appointment and right away Brian asked for installation date - I responded "NO" but the date Mike was to come back for measurements. Then Brian asked for a $700 deposit & I stated I only had $500- But Mike really it was to collect the deposit(rude again) so as not to assist with my project. Installation Date:7/25/24 between 1-3 PM 3 strangers & a kid show up & no Mike(supposedly the installer), no Identification on them or the truck (which was a beat up pickup truck) Some impression ,huh. When I asked where Mike was, they said he was coming- later. So I waited a little while , NO MIKE, and still concerned why a young child was brought to the job. I ended up letting them in ( a little **** about the child in the truck with nothing to do). Out of kindness I moved my truck out the way so it would be helpful for them to get the counter top in. NO appreciation. Like it was expected. They ripped out the old sink, faucet & counter top and left in the driveway. I had to show them the contract that stated they would be responsible for disposal- I got an attitude about that. The Counter top had to wait because the sink had to go in first. That's done and the counter top installed & looks good. The Faucet: It was a problem for the workers ( I call them workers/laborers because I noticed none of them were plumbers, or skilled laborers) The Hot water connection was no problem. The Cold water connection must have been ripped out when they took the sink out(I'm guessing , because again I had installed a faucet with no problems. The connections the laborer ( not a plumber) to the Faucet had no pressure(I thought that maybe the hose they used was the wrong size) & he didn't know what to do about it ;looks like he use a few junk connectors, a faulty turner (one that looks like you would use on an outside faucet) ,jimmy it together and it leaks. What a mess they left. I had to re- sweep under the sink area, the counter top where they had to drill a bigger hole because the faucet didn't fit that need a total wipe down causing dust which then I had to vacuum. And I had left the area spotless and expected to be returned to the same cleanliness I had done. I called about the situation and spoke with Brian again and he would contact MIKE .Mike came explained the sometimes stuff get into the faucet during installation and he brought an extra faucet head. I also mentioned that it was leaking - Mike checked and didn't feel a leak. Why because his hands were wet???? Who checks for leak with wet hands Then Which happened to get me thinking that the sink & faucet was the closing of the deal. No favor to me. Well folks I had to call again because now it is still leaking. I called 7/28 to report this problem and Brain stated that Mike will be out either 7/30 or 7/31. Never heard back."

FAQs for countertop and backsplash service projects in Kew Gardens, NY

Since knowing how to install countertops correctly requires in-depth knowledge and understanding of the topic, we recommend hiring a professional countertops installer near you to work on this project. Kitchen countertops are a high-visibility investment, meaning mistakes made during DIY installation will be easy to spot, may cause damage, and potentially require re-purchasing materials. Professional countertop installers have the skills, tools, and experience to place your new kitchen feature safely and correctly.

There are several countertop options available to fit your lifestyle and needs.

  • Granite countertops are durable and come in a variety of colors.

  • Soapstone countertops are prone to scratches and best in smaller kitchens.

  • Marble countertops are less durable than granite but a good option for busy kitchens.

  • Slate countertops are stain-resistant, making them easy to clean.

  • Limestone countertops must be sealed often to prevent scratches.

  • Acrylic countertops cost less than granite while still providing durability.

  • Laminate countertops are the most affordable but chip and fade faster.

  • Wood countertops need monthly sealing to maintain.

The cost to install countertops is $3,105 on average. This project cost can range from $400 to $8,500, depending on the material, edging, and countertop size.

Laminate countertops are generally the most cost-efficient, ranging from $8 to $27 per square foot. On the other hand, slate countertops are considered more luxurious and range from $30 to $90 per square foot. There are also countertop materials priced between those two, including stainless steel, granite, Corian, and wood.

The best way to save money on countertop installation is to choose an affordable material. For example, if you have a busy kitchen and need durability, choose a more affordable but lasting material like granite countertops. Likewise, if you don't use your countertops often, you can use a softer material that costs less than more sturdy ones.

Another way to cut costs is to remove and dispose of the existing countertops yourself, if possible. That way, countertop installers can get straight to placing the new feature, reducing labor costs.

It typically takes one to three days to install kitchen countertops. A few factors like size and material impact the time it takes to install a countertop. For example, if you have two slabs of countertop material, it won’t take as long to install as placing several custom pieces of countertop.

This timelines allows for removing existing countertops and any plumbing disconnect and reconnect that needs to happen. Plan on the higher end of the time frame if you've chosen custom countertops versus large slabs.
