"Roy and his men Alan and Adam did the best job I have ever had from any contractor. The house and deck had deteriorated badly, and needed a lot of remedial work including deck board and rail replacement, reconstruction, heavy sanding, stripping and re-staining/repainting. They did an awesome job in each category, and managed to get the job done at the end of the season before the snow flew. The place now shines, and looks like a new house."

"Artie Knapp REALLY busts it out! Job was clean, affordable and FAST. His staff was courteous, and went out of their way to keep the parts of the house not being painted clean. I have since used A.O.K to replace my well pump, build a deck, install a walkway, install lighting fixtures, and many other tasks, large and small, and have always been pleased. I am a loyal customer."

"Pete responded to my Home Advisor request immediately and showed up when promised. He had to work in some awkward spots around the outside of the house, but did the work efficiently and took care not to damage plants and objects. His painting was skillful and neat, and his cleanup at the end was thorough. He and his assistant were very friendly and made sure they had done everything we wanted before leaving."

"GoProPaint team did an excellent job. They were timely and communicative. We quoted over 3 different companies and GPP was the most responsive, honest, and diligent company. I would 100% recommend them and will be using them moving forward. We had a large job to be done, between a main house and apartment and they did everything well and even cleaned up at the end of the job."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.

Unless you’re using a 2-in-1 formula or painting over an existing coat of paint, it pays to apply a coat of primer ahead of your new paint. Decks see a lot of footfall and exposure to extreme and sudden temperature changes and moisture levels. The primer promotes better paint adhesion, moisture repellency, and a smoother finish, which means you’ll often need fewer coats of paint.

Liquid rubber is great for waterproofing, but it can damage your deck if it’s not applied correctly. First, it can trap moisture in the wood if the deck isn’t completely dry before application.  Second, applying it too thickly can create a heavy, rubbery surface layer that peels and cracks under fluctuating temperatures. For the best results, ensure the wood is completely dry before application, and apply the liquid rubber in thin, even coats. A quick inspection every now and then will help you catch any issues early, keeping your deck protected and looking its best.

Yes, many repair services include repainting to match the color of the existing siding or walls. Most professionals offer this service to ensure the repaired area blends in seamlessly.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.
