"We recently had a partial kitchen and bathroom update done by Gosson Contracting. This involved retiling & leveling large floor area, plumbing, electric work, moving existing cabinets and adding custom cabinets. David Gosson and his team not only showed up when they said they would but also maintained good communication with us throughout the duration of project.David and his team worked hard to get the details right even if it meant they had to work longer hours to do it. David Gosson is the real deal. He was fair and reasonable with project cost. He is extremely knowledgeable and skilled in his trade. We would highly recommend David and his team and would hie him again for a future project."

"Edgar was very professional. He came when he said he would. He provided a certificate of insurance and a very good price quote. He did an excellent job cleaning the gutters and then cleaned up all of the leaves that fell from the gutters. I will definitely call him next fall."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Vinyl siding will fade slowly over time but will likely be most noticeable starting 10–15 years after installation. This timeline varies based on factors such as the climate where you live. In areas with more extreme hot or cold conditions, vinyl is likely to fade more quickly.

While almost nothing is completely fireproof, metal siding is extremely fire-resistant. It’s non-combustible so while it may eventually melt in extreme temperatures, it won’t actually light on fire itself. This can add a layer of safety to structures that wood or vinyl siding can’t, making it attractive for industrial use. Metal siding can significantly slow down the spread of a fire, giving extinguishers and firefighters a much better chance at saving the structure and containing the blaze.

Hardie board is more expensive than vinyl siding. Vinyl siding costs $3 to $12 per square foot, on average, with cost skewing toward the lower end of that range. Hardie board siding costs $7 to $18 per square foot, depending on the style, color, and trim. However, it lasts twice as long and often looks nicer, meaning you’ll see a higher bump in your home value and greater curb appeal from Hardie board.

Siding pros typically charge by the square foot when providing estimates for siding projects. They’ll take the material cost and add in an estimated labor fee, and some contractors will include an additional upcharge to account for profit, waste, and unexpected issues. Another important price factor your pro will consider is the quality of your home’s current siding, which they’ll need to remove, and your home’s sheathing. If pros have to make any additional repairs to your home’s exterior, the added labor will also influence your final siding cost.

You should install your cedar shake siding with the rough side exposed. The smooth side is less resistant to weathering over the years, and the rough side gives your home a more rugged aesthetic. The rough side also takes to paint better and ensures any paint job will last longer before needing to be redone.
