Small jobs welcome

"RJC is the only electricians that we use as he has done multiple jobs at our home and business with safety first, quality work ! Weâ ve called them in emergency conditions gave us instructions for our safety and arrived within an hour. Weâ ve had major problems with massive floods X 4 in our 18 yrs of current home, all utilities are in basement so extensive electrical work furnace, panel, well pump, bladder, hot water tank, new wiring etc.. Installed new wiring for appliances, lighting, pool and many updates including 2nd panel. I lost a 2 mobile homes to fire and deemed to be electrical so I was very fearful ! I have not been since RJC has been a blessing as he physically shows and fully explains the importance of whatâ s needed and why and what the plan is. We have complete trust and confidence as RJC Electric that we and our home /property is safe ! Heâ s the best all around for 18+ years for us."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Yes, installing a generator usually increases your property value because buyers are getting the added peace of mind knowing they’ll be able to maintain power through blackouts. In most cases, you should see close to a 100% return on investment (ROI). Keep in mind that home generators usually need a permanent foundation, and installing a concrete slab will likely raise your property taxes slightly.

Setting up utilities on a vacant property usually takes at least a few months, or between 6 weeks to 16 weeks. This process requires working with the local planning and zoning department, hiring a building contractor or engineer to design the utility layout, securing permits, laying the lines, and connecting the utilities.

Generators run on a variety of fuel types, ranging from natural gas to solar power. Keep in mind that fuel costs varying by type:

  • Natural gas: $2,000–$21,000 per year

  • Liquid propane: $2,000–$21,000 per year

  • Diesel: $3,000–$20,000 per year

  • Gasoline: $500–$3,000 per year

  • Solar generator: $2,000–$25,000 per unit

  • Battery backup: $10,000–$25,000 per unit

It might seem counterintuitive, but installing a generator transfer switch will save you money in the long run. While you’ll have to pay between $400 and $2,500 to have the transfer switch installed, you’ll recoup that amount later on when you don’t have to pay for expensive repairs to your appliances, devices, and electrical system that may have burned out, overloaded, or stopped working due to a sudden loss of power or an incorrect hook up of a generator to your home

To reduce AC startup power for a whole-house generator, install a soft start kit or hard start capacitor, which lowers the initial surge by gradually ramping up the compressor. Using a smart load manager can also help by staggering startup loads, preventing a system overload and future costly repairs.
